No clue. Izmet hasn't said any legal update. It is an uphill legal battle for him if he does file.
BCE repro from the Chess Empire

Sold by not made by. ChessUSA got it from The Chess Empire I am sure. 1,000 Euros for the original Stage 3 BCE is way to much for my budget for a chess set.
It probably came from CE but on Chess USA's site it says it is a Mark of Westminster product. Im guessing CE makes it for MoW as well.

Mark of Westminster is most probably sourced from Chopra Chess.

Right KnightsForkCafe but is anyone going to file a lawsuit against ChessUSA ? After all they are selling a stolen design.
It's the double standard of Anglo Saxon hypocrisy ?

Unless we're stock holders in these companies, who really cares. After owning a business for 35 years, that is "that world".
Dog eat dog and competitive. You have to be ready for anything. As a consumer,it's not really our problem.
Don't get me wrong...I feel for these mfgrs of original designs, but it's their fight.

It's Dog Eat Dog. Period. Laws, social conventions, responsibility, culture, none of that matters anymore. It's just_: make as mucgh money as quickly as possible, retire t 40 at the latest, and sip mai-thais for the rest of your daays.
But the hypocrisy, bordering on outright racism, just irks me.
Yeah it like I can drive my big SUV / f///k the planet while talking sh/t on my mobile phone while driving , about sums it up ?

The only racism here is you, sound67, commenting an a company being in the USA and such. Izmet is in Slovenia as is Noj. While Chess Empire is in India, no one has said anything or cares about that, but apparently you.
Legal and illegal in this is a cloudy situation. What is moral and ethical are not. Rishi9 talks about “gentlemen” and how they should act. Unless someone can provide real evidence to the contrary, I do not see the Chess Empire people being gentlemen at all.

Copyright infringement is a supply and demand issue. If people didn't want/buy fakes... no one would be making or selling fakes.
It is also a consumer fight/right. Consumers should know what type of company they are supporting when they choose to buy one of their products. Even if a consumer knowingly buys a fake this does not exempt the seller or maker from copyright laws.

@sound67 I don't know what thread you're reading, however, I have not seen @eyechess say any of the things you claim.
sound67, you need to get a grip on reality.
I never said Chessusa.com was alright doing that at all. In fact I haven’t mentioned them at all, yet.
Of course they are wrong offering a copy of a set, currently made like the BCE set. Yes, they are also doing wrong.
The only “excuse” they might give is that they are not calling it Best Chessmen, but Nebula. They still are wrong.
sound67, I assure you that I am not racist. I don’t care where in the world sets are made or sold from.
All right then. But next time don't just point to the unauthorized Indisn replica, point out the American one (reseller) as well.
And do me a favor. Give me the benefit of the doubt.
Of the 40+ wood sets that I own only 6 were not made in India and those are Noj. And no one anywhere can compete with Noj at all, but that’s another discussion.
What you might see in this, from me is a disappointment in the Chess Empire guy(s). I know that the vast majority of my nicest, non-Noj sets are made by them and the Staunton Castle people. They made sets for Frank and Carl that I cherish as my nicest.
I am disappointed but not blinded. I would still buy a set from them. Like loubalch, I will boycott specific sets, not the company.
And yes, in today’s market I will buy direct from them before buying from any retailer.
*THIS IS HUMOR!!!* Its not like the set is made in or sold from Germany. *END OF HUMOR!!!

@sound67 I too have not explicitly said anything for or against ChessUSA. It appears @eyechess and I both agree that it's not right for any company (regardless of origin) to create unauthorised copies of copyrighted chess pieces.
Your assumption is that I clicked the link to view the ChessUSA website... I didn't and so I never commented about it (in fact, I assumed it was likely a reference to some other design). ChessUSA has a listing for "Best Chessmen Ever" and "MoW Nebula" (the set that was linked). It appears ChessUSA is a reseller and not a manufacturer. The BCE listing may be legitimate. The MoW appears to be a copy of BCE.
I would suggest @ifekali report the copyright infringement to ChessUSA and expect they would remove the listing with little fuss. He should also seek out the manufacturer (Chopra Chess? Mark of Westminster?) and send them a cease and desist letter. The copyright infringement should be reported to payment processors, other online retailers and web hosting providers as this is likely a violation of their terms of service.
I don't see why racism should be in play here. What I do sadly see,are the same dumb insults being flung around and to no surprise...
Taking shots at America....Sheesh!

@Magictwanger There is no respect here for each other or for Americans. People think they can do that because their identity is shielded by the cloud. They think what they see on TV is accurate and that all Americans drive SUVs and talk on their cell phones.
@Zagryan I am sorry for hijacking your thread.
I would like to pose a question here for all. How would you like if I tell you I know your country because I have seen it on TV? How would you like it if I assumed that you as an individual human being is 100% represented by everything I see on CNN, Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, etc about your country, its history, and its people. How would you like it if I assume the worst moment in your country's history is a good representation of who you are? And as a result, that gives me the right to take shots at you and your country. Is that fair to you???
I wouldn't like it,but there are quite a few dopes who take that attitude.....Sadly,some are rather intelligent and some had my respect a while ago....No more!
Btw,I have been a night bird, since the lock down....The America bashing during GM/IM games in the chat is astounding......I guarantee these people never even visited the USA.
I think an accurate description of so many of these folks would be ill informed jerks
and haters.Blame the media, but moreso their upbringing by their parents and communities.
Almost laughable!

@Magictwanger There are more than a few who take that attitude and it is just not fair. I don't just mean unfair because we are Americans and we are the ones being judged. I mean it is unfair for anyone from any country to be judged by what someone sees on TV, reads in a history book, magazine or blog, or sees from a short vacation.
Ill informed is right. I understand if the judgement is based upon an actual extended experience such as the person lived in America for awhile and then was treated poorly during the time in America. I can't understand judgement coming from people who have not lived in America. It would be like me judging some place I saw on TV. I watched the 2016 summer Olympics so that must mean I can comment on life in Rio. Or perhaps I am an expert because I visited a place once. I went to Russia once via a European cruise. I think the stop over was two days and we took a tour of many sites. It would be like me saying I know Russia because I was there for two days and watched a bunch of videos about Russia on the cruise ship. How ignorant and disrespectful would that be towards anyone from Russia. Oh and I've been to Tokyo twice including one trip where I was there for 3 weeks. That must mean I know what life in Japan is like. Ill informed is correct.

@MCH818 Stereotyping is just a reality we all have to deal with. It's not right but It's also not going to go away no matter how much we hate seeing it and hearing it. People will be people.

@KnightsForkCafe I understand. This is not about trying to get it to go away. This is about standing up for each other when something isn't right. It is fine to make judgements and assumptions founded or unfounded about chess stuff but it is a whole other thing to make judgements and assumptions against everyone from an entire country.
KnightsForkCafe's comment triggered this song in my head...
People are people so why should it be
You and I should get along so awfully....
The lyrics seem so apt.. have a listen to Depeche Mode and chill everyone
