Chavet Purists ... forgive me :(

Hi All - Well I got sick of looking at the new (fugly) Queens in my modern Chavet No.6 set and decide to do a little "mingling" . I also have the Europa No.6 set. The Europa Queens and Bishops are almost dead ringers for the vintage Chavet set. Also the Europa Kings have a more "plus sign" look to them like the vintage Chavet Kings. You guessed it! Here is the "Chavropa Set" (sorry ) . Europa Kings Queens and Bishops and Chavet modern Knights  Rooks and pawns. If this offends - my apoligies.

My "original" Chavet bought even before the match Kasparov-Anand! The
the glory of this set is the famous Tournament of Linares ( Rentero) in which the Chavet replaced the Spanisch Indajesa relegated to the analysis room !

But I have a doubt: is The Chavet cherss Pieces, original design? Well I think that the Italian Didatto company, makes the first set "pré-chavet", and you know what i mean! I have a Didatto set before the Chavet Design, and bought in 70 end and early, and  I can see the Chavet "inspiration". Sorry is my opinion, dear French chess friends.

Well...evidences or a new French Revolution...! Garibaldi, help me please! Yes they are different, but the designer ideia is the same.

And, by the way...the modern Staunton used in chess tounaments ( with that prosaic ridiculous name " German Knight" made to millions in India, where was its inspiration? No comment!
Okay, one Diddato chess set also has pilfered idea of the famous French  Lardy, and so on!

Mixing a modern Chavet w/ an Indajesa Europa is probably the closest you can get to a vintage set. Looks good. I really don't know why old Chavet sets are that hard to come by - I have only ever seen two size 6 vintage sets on ebay on the last few years. I feel blessed to own one, and I actually much prefer playing with this style set than with a fancy antique Jaques or similar British designs...

Quite True. If Alain Chavet would re-introduce the original design from the mid '80's/early '90's I think it would be VERY wise business decision

VERY nice. I have a similar set coming today with 4" Kings but the queens have  spherical spires. Not like the modern ones but more rounded. Also my knights have the similar side eyes like yours. I'll post pics when it lands. Congrats on a RARE set!!

I'm thinking of using my wood-turning skills, to modify the queen and remove the ugly nipple ...
I hope the modification is like this ... it will be a good project

Beautiful set !! To me the Chavet knights are the most attractive of the 20th Century. Especially the vintage ones with the longer snouts. The new #6 set knights don't even have eyes on them. They look like crude blanks. I hope Chavet returns to these vintage style sets ASAP.

Ronbo710 and Shulerstack, you guys have marvelous nice sets now! Wow! I need to look for a vintage one, too. 

I got a more recent Chavet no.5 set. It isn't too bad, but I am pretty disappointed seeing the fact that 3 of my pieces have the wood knots showing and a slightly chipped rook on the top  . 

Shulerstack are you really going to make Chavet reproductions? I'm ready to purchase. Trying to find a Chavet #6 or larger set, is driving me crazy!

I'm making my own Chavropa! I received a #6 Chavet with Tetes Fines Knights. I'm going to mix it with a #6 Europa. Photos soon.
