Checkmate

mine has arrived, but it's sitting in a container in the Fedex depot, slated for delivery Monday morning. They won't let me pick it up in person...
Its great to hear that the sets are finally arriveing after all the brouhaha. Looks fantastic to me.!!
goodknightmike..Thank you for posting the pictures of the J.Jaques repo set.
I received my 1849 reproduction J.Jaques Pattern Chessmen.. set # 5 yesterday also...I love it and couldn't be more pleased in owning this historical reproduction ..It's Beautiful !!!..
I would like to Thank Alan Dewey and Vikramjit Singh of CB
for their great effort and time in producing this beautiful set. Thank You again for all your hard work...
The pieces look A-1 to me. The Kingside stampings look like an amateur attempt to me from the pics provided. I would rather have the pieces unstamped but, thats JMO. A very nice set all in all.!

The trees outside remind me that I'm sick of living in a city. I imagine you have a nice home.
I want to live in the woods somewhere with the ocean nearby and long, hot summers. I'm also addicted to city life however, I'd have to be able to get in the car and arrive at the chess club in 10-15 minutes. Or better yet, on a bicycle.
Chess collecting in either venue is fine. But I do like trees in my environment.

The set looks like an extremely fine chess set. Probably a sheer pleasure to play with. But it's just the knight...
If someone could show me the Knight this is based upon it would alleviate all of my concerns.
Jack... there is no known Knight that I know of that its based on. I looked everywhere for Jaques Knights & came up dry. The Knight is still nice looking IMO.

Jack & 9kick9, this is as close as I could find. Their "1849" CB knight looks like a composite with design elements from these two early 1850's knights (among others). What's your take?

I just noticed that the CB knight shares a certain resemblance to the HOS Camaratta Signature knight, such as the sculptured body and the extended mane, both top and bottom.
That Camaratta knight is very nice looking; it looks practically identical to the "Elgin marbles" horse head:
It even has the same double mane thing going on. It is clearly intended to be a copy of the Elgin marbles horse sculpture. However, there isn't a very strong resemblance between the Camaratta knight / Elgin marbles horse and the CB knight.
I'd never seen the Camaratta knight before; it is quite impressive in its own right. The early Jaques knights were supposedly based on the Elgin marbles horse, but there were plenty of differences. This Camaratta knight on the other hand is pretty much a copy of the Elgin marbles horse. They didn't quite get the angle and shape of the ears right, but otherwise it is very close.
