Do you paste the rar file in the Ubisoft folder in program files? I've never used a rar file.

No, you'll have to unarchive it with an archiving utility, sort of like a zip file. My favorite unarchiver is 7-Zip.

https://www.7-zip.org/

I unarchived it but all I see is a rar file. I just didn't know what to do with it.

I had to download it and unarchive it myself so I'd know what was going on. It will be unarchived into a folder named "Data". (That's super generic - I would have been a bit more descriptive.) Inside that folder will be two other folders (Opening Books and Personalities) and a ReadMe file. The ReadMe file tells you where to copy the files.

I don't see the two folders you mentioned but I'm not really interested in other personalities that much anyway. The biggest drawback to Chessmaster is the lack of a strong engine that can be imported without jumping through hoops to install it. I believe I figured out what the problem is with Slow Blitz and a couple of others I've tried such as Arasan which are rated several hundred points higher than Chessmaster 11. Both Slow Blitz and Arasan are UCI/Winboard compatible but even though CM 11 will import those engines, something the way they are compiled won't let them play at full strength. They both lost consistently against Chessmaster when played in the CM GUI. I have started a project of testing other winboard engines to see if they had the same problem. I decided to start with BugChess 2 v. 2.19 and so far playing at 10 sec/move BugChess has won 5 and lost 1. There are other much stronger Winboard engines than BugChess and I plan on eventually testing them out.

I imported Arasan 24 into CM 10th without any parameters and it works perfectly. It is beastly strong compared to Chessmaster. I was testing games between them at 3+2 time control. Maybe CM 11 hogs too much CPU? Arasan even supports the 'setboard' command, so you can use it in "Setup Position" in Chessmaster. Also, I was able to set up a separate Arasan personality that uses a Chessmaster opening book, and it still runs properly. Arasan is my new favorite engine.

By the way, I figured out how to edit the ratings of Chessmaster personalities. So, for example, if you were annoyed that all imported winboard engines had to have 0 rating, or you want to edit native personality ratings, check the solution in page 10 of this thread:

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chessmaster-personalities-1?page=10#last_comment

You can even bypass the 3000 rating limit on custom personalities using this method.

Can you also find a way for mentor to work properly with other engines?

Do any of you have suggestions on how I can make Karpov's personality better. I was thinking of dragging the positional slider from 25 to 10 or 15 Or are there other ways to make Karpov stronger without doing too much.

Funny enough, Fritz 19 copied having different “personalities” as players. They used an anthropomorphic approach instead of former world champions. A bull for an aggressive attacking player instead of Kasparov’s likeness

Do avd (Attacker / Defender): 85 mean -15 on the slider and myb (My Bishop): 15 means 3.0 ?

vs Leonid Stein of Gemini Google

Attacker/Defender: Increase to 85. Stein was known for his aggressive playstyle, so a higher value here reflects his propensity to attack.
Material/Positional: Decrease to 10. While Stein understood the importance of position, his main focus was creating tactical chances and imbalances.
Randomness: Keep it at 10. A little unpredictability can simulate Stein's creativity in finding unexpected sacrifices.
Calculation and Selectivity:

Max Search Depth: Increase to 25 (within limits). Greater depth of analysis allows Stein to find more hidden tactics, but this needs to be balanced with game time.
Selective Search: Increase to 15. Although Stein was creative, he was also an excellent calculator. A slightly higher value allows you to evaluate sacrifices more accurately.
Reduce Draw Aversion:

Contempt for Draw: Increase to 4.0. Stein was known for fighting for wins and avoiding draws whenever possible.
Value Minor Pieces and Passed Pawns:

Own Knight (OwnN): Increase to 4.0. Stein greatly valued the activity of horses for tactics and destabilizing the opponent's position.
Own Passed Pawns (OwnPP): Increase to 170. Converting passed pawns into queens was crucial for Stein in the fight for victory.
Adjust the Relative Value of Larger Pieces:

Own Queen (OwnQ): Decrease to 8.0. While Stein valued the queen, he did not hesitate to sacrifice her for tactical advantage.
Own Rook (OwnR): Decrease to 4.0. Similar to the queen, rooks were important but could be sacrificed for decisive attacks.
Other adjustments:

Own Control of Center (OwnCC): Decrease to 150. Stein sought to destabilize the center and create imbalances, being able to give up absolute control.
Opposing Control of Center (OppCC): Increase to 170. Stein was attentive to controlling the opponent in the center to exploit weaknesses.

Attacking value of -70 or -85 is quite high and might compromise the playing level. Also Stength of play of 90 reduces the general level of play considerable. I want Stein to compete against the GM personalities at about even level. Most GMs have Strength of play at 100.
