I like the ring neck pawns in that first set.

Nice basic Drueke plastic design in wooden form is great for gameplay and display. Nothing fancy about this set but gets the job done.

Ooo that is a Supreme Stauton set in golden rosewood from "House of Chess". I know cause I got one just like it but slightly darker in rosewood. happy.png

That is the set I take out of the house and play on about 3-4 times a week. 75% of the time or so I use that one. The other 15% is 1972 Spas Vs Fisch, and another 10% all the other sets combined. So you can say I like that set a lot. Played one game on it yesterday in fact happy.png

What I like most about this set as my main out of the house set in no particular order:

- the shape of the bishops head (subjective)

- the fact that the rooks crenellations are not too tall and so less prone to breaking ( a problem with 1972 fischer and many other sets)

- bottoms of the pieces have no overhang so the felt is as wide as the whole base (stability)

- simple but not ugly knights, nothing to break off, but not horrid to look at.

- rounded crown on the queen so no breaking / hand stabbing

- sturdy pawns without necks/collars that are too slender

here just got it out of my carry bag and took a picture for this thread:

No matter how pretty to me this is unplayable chess set. All the colors look too similar, and everything is way too shiny.

Here is a set I would like to own. It is the 4" Vanguard Staunton set sold by chessusa.com

@BattleDuck Yes you are correct in that it is the Supreme Staunton set from House of Chess. Here is a picture of the Drueke plastic version. That is why I got the Supreme Staunton set because it looks a lot like the plastic set.

Interesting, explains I suppose why I liked that design but not so much most other designs on the House of Chess website, well I am all for it take what works and make it even better.

House of chess btw makes really nice folding boards, and they will make the storage compartments fit the chess pieces you already have, if the chess sets are from india they probably already have cut outs for them. I suppose I should take a picture of the set I put together that way.

That is really a Drueke plastic set?

It is not the one they called the Players.

Is it available to buy in plastic anywhere?

Not sure it is is "stunning" but here's the vintage Chavet  #6 (Ref. B-210) . A similar set was used in the the 1990, 1993 & 1995 World Championships happy.png .

I was wondering when you were going to dust that set off and break it out again. That is one of the rarest sets. You have to show the box.

If you mean me Thanks. Box & label added.

Yeah, That's it.  I find it stunning in its own right. I'm still looking for that illusive set.

I agree. Chess History was MADE with this Chavet set. happy.png

@Eyechess It is a Drueke plastic set. No it isn't the Players Choice. Drueke did have a few other plastic sets before they quit making them. These sets are even harder to find than the OG Drueke Players Choice sets.

However this store no longer exist but for some reason it is still up. I forget the item number Drueke gave this set but it shares the same number as another set with different Knights.

I think that they are out of these as well.

Thanks.
