Fritz 14???

Is it too soon to start waiting for fritz 14. Chessbase put a lot of effort in there lets play edition of fritz 13. Because of that do you think Fritz 14 will be released later than usual.

I'd like to see some endgame improvement with 14

Dodger111

You want to see some engine improvement in Fritz 14? Nobody can beat fritz 13, what's there to improve?

I still have Fritz 7 bought over 10 years ago and I can't begin to win against it while letting Fritz only take 5 seconds/move.

I'm using Fritz 13 and very pleased with it.  I can't see upgrading just to get a stronger engine and unless there are other features, I'll pass.  I don't play against the engine, nor do I use it to play against other engines.  The only thing that would push me is better analytical features and maybe better endgame analysis.  If I wanted a strong engine, I would have bought Houdini 3.

When analysizing my games on chessbase I can see if I am ahead and by how much. All the engines give you a 1.23 lead or whatever. I think fritz could improve in this area to give a more accurate representation of the board position. For example my rook pawn vs his rook and 2 pawns is -.45. I think other engines are more accurate. A green light yellow light red light could be more accurate.

err, is it Christmas time already?

Googled for Fritz 14, and came with this result:

Dieser Artikel wird am 1. November 2013 erscheinen.

Nov 1 is the release date.

Thanks for the info. They have proven to be accurate in the past. Much appreciated.

I am not too excited about the scoring numbers from these engines.  If you go back and view the recent Candidates matches in which Nigel Short was commentator, they frequently showed the engine they were using (I assume Houdini 3 but don't know that for certain) was giving large swings in positional evaluations that didn't always seem to correlate with the analysis of the commentators or the after-game analysis by the players.  Short pointed this out several times that the engine seemed to over or under evaluate the positional balances.  But anything they can do to help with post-game analysis and information is welcome.

More colours for squares and arrows would be nice! I don't know why it's restricted to only red, green and yellow (not the most colourblind-friendly choice).

It looks like the only version will be deep fritz 14 no regular fritz 14.

And no new features at all?

It was Houdini 3. Its signature is really poor endgame play (I learnt it at this occasion...)

I think thats where fritz can really improve is in endgame analysis as to how far a person is ahead. I often see fritz analysing positions near the end where its clearly a draw or win etc and fritz just has it plain wrong.

I then need to go to the shredder site to see the perfect solution but you have to have less than 7 pieces on the board.

Go with Houdini....

My understanding no standard fritz 14 this year.. There will be deep fritz 14 and Houdini 4 that can be pre-order. I just wonder if chessbase will lose money for not making a standard fritz 14, I am thinking many poeple have computers that can not run deep fritz.

If you're not happy with the Fritz engine there are a number of free options that are right at or near the top in this years engine tournament. Bouquet, Gull and of course Stockfish. Bouquet in particular has come from nowhere to really challenge the big boys. Komodo has won two of the stages and is looking like it will beat out Houdini this year for top marks. Though it's not over yet.... Still I don't think you could go very wrong using one of the top free engines for analysis.

I'm pretty happy with Fritz 13 so I'll wait a bit for the reviews to come out about 14. But it's possible I might pick up a copy if the reviews look promising and there's new features. I'm curious when the next Chessbase will come out. I don't have that yet and am waiting for the new version before I buy....

When those engines are thinking way out beyond 20 plies, do you really think it matters if one is 10 Elo points better than another when they are all over 3000?  If I could calculate that far in advance, perhaps I could make a case for a better engine, but at our human level, it really doesn't matter.

Fritz is a very good GUI, and if you really don't like the Fritz engine (and why not?), you can run any of the other engines within the Fritz GUI and access the features using the engine of your choice.  It does a credible job of analysis and I use it after every game, especially my losses, to show me where I went wrong.

imho, Fritz was valuable not for its engine [at least starting F10 when Rybka started to dominate) but for its other features. I was updating my Playchess account. However Chessbase reduced it to  half a year. Bad boys.

It is a good environment to run some fancy chess engine matches. Though for that no need to get a new version every year.

Interesting learning features.

There was a tendency that Fritz was the first in the line with the newest GUI. After month or two other engines would be released with it too. Will a new version bring something exciting - time will show.

I dont get chessbases reasoning for this latest fritz release. They want a smarter engine that can compete with the top engines. No chance. Fritz has always been designed as a user friendly fun piece of chess software. They cant compete at the technical top engines level.

Also i agree with the quote that many people use the fritz 1 yr free server time. Then they cut the time to six months and now understandable but no fritz 14 with one year.

Question? Im not going to just give them money for server time. Any ideas on what to purchase that would qualify for months on the server?
