Good book with Silman's Endgame

Hello everyone,

i'm studying OTB silman's (massive) endgame book. It's fun to play out on the board and very valuable.
I was wondering if you had a suggestion of endgame book that could go along. That adds to Silman's book (so still on the endgame, but different style or approacht). I was interested in Fundamentals chess Endings by Müller and Lamprechts.

Cheers!

Edit: They also have , in by chessbook store, 100 endgames by De La Villa, Most Instructive endgames 2012-15, Endgame Tactics by Van Perlo, Hellsten's Mastering Endgame strategy, Understanding chess endgames by Nunn, Chess Endgame Training by Rosen, How to play chess endgames by Müller and Pajeken and the greatest ever chess endgames by Giddins happy.png

After Silman’s book, try Dvortesky’s endgame manual.

Thanks for the replies guys! I agree that dvoretsky isn't mine calibre (as Aagaard). But I didn't consider it because it's a heavy read. I'm passionate but not fooling myself on my level :) I've to clarify what I'm looking for, I'm looking for something I can pair with Silmans book. Maybe with mostly exercices emphasizing on endgame patterns (not tactical book on pins or forks which I already own, or checkmates patterns). So I can first read a chapter on, let's say bishop and pawn vs lone king, then go to the other book to find some familiar exercises to train with. I'm not looking so much on a theory heavy book

Maybe try Practical Chess Endings by Chernev. Might not be available in algebraic notation.

You can use these books to go along to provide you comparison and materials.

Understanding Chess Endgames by Nunn

Fundamental Chess Endings by Muller

100 Endgames by Delavilla

Now these book list above and the Silman book that you have are theoretical endgame books. It means that there are set of  known moves that you will follow. There is also this thing called Strategic Endgame. In this endgame there are no defenite of moves that you need to follow. In these list i suggest you get De La Villa's book.

These are good strategic endgame books.

101 Endgame Tips by Giddins

Endgame Strategy by Sheresevsky

Secrets of Endgame Chess Strategy by Hansen.

  Mastering Endgame strategy

How To Play Chess Endgame by Muller

In these list i suggest you get  How to Play Chess Endgame by Muller.

Nice, thanks everyone for the advice and support. I'm a bookworm so i have to refrain myself on reading too much (wich i manage to do lately). i think i'm going to buy Van Perlo's endgame tactic book along with How to play chess endgames (which i'll only start when i'm done with silman's book, at least until  acertain level. So it can take me a while)

Do your games reach up to 'endgame'?There is good suggestion/autosuggestion already.good luck!funny to see 1200 rated player talking about 'My System's validity in modern time though.(hope the bot don't see this)

Yes quite often. Are you talking about my post where i asked if chess book can get outdated?

Silman deals with all the theoretical endgames you should know for each level as you improve. Combine this with a book on endgame strategy as suggested jambyvedar. Personally, I would go for either 'Endgame Strategy' by Shereshevsky or Hansen's 'Secrets of Endgame Strategy', because they combine long game fragments with comprehensive verbal explanations. (No disrespect to the other authors, but in my view both Nunn and Müller are less good at verbally explaining what's going on, and although Giddin's book is quite useful, most of his examples are very brief.)

Later on, as you get more advanced I would also suggest Shereshevsky's two volume work 'Mastering the Endgame', where he's going through openings from an endgame strategy perspective. The volume on 1.e4 goes into specific openings (since their characteristics vary wildly), while the 1.d4 volume deals with more permanent characteristics of closed openings: light- and dark-squared strategy, symmetry and asymmetry.
