There’s no rule that says you can’t have both. Just use the Chessconnect app instead of the Chessnut app. You may find out how addictive auto-sensory boards are.

I have been considering getting one of the Chessnut boards, perhaps the Air or Air+. However, the reviews of the Android and IOS Apps is underwhelming. As I thought about it, I have a Mephisto Exclusive that I bought way back in the day. It has been sitting around gathering dust. I used it for years as a display piece in my office. I decided to see if I could fire it up and if it would still work (these came out around 1990). The power supply was broken but I have a substitute. I also misplaced the manual. Fortunately, I found one online.
The good news is that this still works, and it still looks great. Amazing.
The Chessnut units do have the advantage they interface directly with tablets or a PC. And they have a much wider selection of bots to play as a result. It is also easier to get the games into Chessbase. But these old units are still a lot of fun, and at my level, plenty strong enough. It would be nice if they had a better book.
