It's $345 at amazon and isn't worth it IMHO. I bought a really nice set bigger and heavier and a nice board for about $200 or so.

The Knight really sucks, it looks anorexic!  AND I notice almost all pictures of it are done in such a way so that you can't tell that it's overwhelmingly grotesque ugliness threatens to destroy the space/time continuum of the entire universe!

$345 for that?  It looks like it was made in a highschool wood shop.  Sorry, not remotely worth the price.

Hahaha... It`s the design you buy. Like Haute Couture.

I have no idea what you just said

my set just turned up. ordered in Nov!

comparison to Jaques queen.

Quite a large change to overall appearance but I am very happy with set.

I also do like the "stare" of the knight

The official board however is ordinary

I just bought this set at a much reduced price. I've been playing chess for 30 years (I should be better), this the first serious chess set I've bought and I gave it considerable thought.

Photos simply don't do the set justice. It's beautifully proportioned and has an understated elegance.

I was concerned the knights were ugly, but to my eyes, they are the standout pieces. There's a grace to the minimalist style that makes the more ornate knights found in some chess sets look over worked and pretentious.

In short, this is a great playing set, that has been carefully designed and manufactured. I'm very pleased.

where? can you share your source?

It was a new set with board from an Ebay auction that no one else bid on, so it was 30% of original price.

I don't think the vendor has any more.

thanks. I've been holding off until they either come down w/ the price to a more reasonable level, or issue the promised plastic version of this set...

They also sell the set without a board (that's not the FIDE board anyway)...

Bring this thread back to life. Looks like this year's WCC, they are still using the same chess sets as the one in last WCC?

They should design new set,I hope this one won't be in use for next ten years.

I agree. I would figured if FIDE or Argon or whomever wants to profit more money to release a new set.

http://fidechessset.com/shop , shows an old set back to 2014 World Championship Match!!!

Big thumbs down!!!!

Ah yes, being surrounded by a bunch of smelly, unkempt weirdos...truly there's no substitute for the OTB experience.

Our club is the strongest in the area and if you're ever in the Raleigh area you're welcome to come by and play and I'll personally give you $100 for every "smelly, unkempt weirdo" in the room... yourself excluded.

LOL

Let's say one is an artist hired to design a gens una sumus set.  How would you go about success? You pick here and there a little design ornament representing the different sets from various parts of the world:  a British Q's coronet, a K's cross ambiguous as to Maltese and Roman on top of a crown that could be French, Indian, or Mongolian, a N with French curves, and all the piece shafts featuring soft, flowing lines; all modern abstract hints of previous designs.  Something people are sure to dislike at first glance, being so non-traditional and eclectic, but that the artist knows will, over time, turn controversy into desirability.

Our group reaction is exactly what the artist meant to inspire.
