@Jacmater That’s just not fair that you can make that while the rest of us have to buy our equipment. Haha! Seriously that is one nice set. If you didn’t say anything I would think you bought it.

I don’t really like the pointy parts on the top of the king and queen though. I find it better to have them without those pointy stuff, but overall, nice set

I agree. It is better to have no pointy parts that can break off. I think all of my vintage sets do not have this issue. It is only my reproductions like the Sinquefield and Collectors that have this issue. I always store all of my wooden reproduction sets so the pieces do not touch each other. There is no worry about the pointy parts chipping or breaking during storage.

yes, I did not play fair, but it was also difficult for me to decide on one of my sets, I even placed them next to each other to decide which one to choose and I am sure it was as difficult as for all of you. As for the pointy parts, they are not suitable for bullet!

For you my friend, I make your life much easier. You give me the one you didn't choose, you know that "Jacmater handcraft handturned luxury weighted series limited edition n°2" (Dubrovnik) and you don't have to worry to choose ever again happy.png

@AceFrawley, here’s the pics of the 1853-55 Jaques Club set you asked for. As sets go, it is really a player’s set, not a  investment quality set. There are a number of old repairs, and the casket they are in is a period piece, probably 1870’s, without a label. But Jaques Club sets of this age in ANY condition are hard to come by for us mere mortals, and I was happy to get this one at a fairly reasonably price. The game shown in the last pic is Steinitz - H. E. Bird, Emperor’s Cup, Vienna, 1873. The set is shown on a Geoffrey Parker leather board, 2-3/8” squares, purchased around 2002.

@AceFrawley, I’ll dig it out of the collection and take some fresh pics for you. Give me a couple of days.

Just wondering, how do you stash your 250+ sets?

Michael, mostly in boxes on shelving in my basement. It’s not optimal, but I really don’t have room to display more than one or two at a time. And my wife would rather I get rid of a hundred or more of them!  The sheer quantity of books, clocks, sets, and boards is actually a little overwhelming when taken in total.

That set looks really nice! And I can imagine what it's like to walk into a basement like that, it's like a little store happy.png

Marie Kondo would have a field day in my house. But I understand where she’s coming from. In the average Japanese residence, there isn’t room for a collection like mine.

In your dreams only. My will designates how it is to be disposed of. And at that point, I won’t care anymore. LOL!

Almost choked on my morning coffee! Lol We’ve started our own martial art in our home. Every couple months we go “Tae Kondo” and unload stuff.
But, not hijack the thread… thank you for posting the pictures and sharing a part of your wonderful collection with us all!
