I'm about to buy the Premium Chess Set Combination from uscf.com, but it asks if I want black and ivory pieces or black and natural. Could someone please post a couple of pictures that show the difference? Thanks.
Plastic Chess Sets - Reviews
I don't have any pictures, but the white is really white, almost a bright white, and the natural is closer to a cream. The natural will look more like a boxwood set. Personally, I like the black and natural too.
I have both & I like the black & natural better. Both are nice though. Personal preference as to what you like.
I really like the look of these ones:

There's another set That I REALLY love, but I can't find it sadly. :(
The Marshall set is nice I think you can get it with a 3 3/4 inch king. The smaller is not USCF legal. Search plastic chess sets by Frank Helweig for a review of most of the good plastic sets.
Ivory is decent but, not my first choice. I have come to like plastic pieces that resemble thier wood conterpart but, thats just my opinion as to what I like in a set.
I'm looking to buy about 20 of these sets for a school. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they fairly durable?

Its a very good price for a weighted plastic set. I would order just one & test it out first before buying a lot of them. Make sure that it fits on a standard vinyl 2 1/4 inch board as they don't give the Kings base size. Good Luck!
I ordered a Weighted Staunton Chess Set with a mixture of Board Bud Rose Wood & Box Wood set from chessbazaar.com..i like Weighted chess sets.. after all Everyone has it's personal tastes in sets & thats why so many varities are available....
Thats a very nice set & board but, the guy is looking for 20 sets for school kids. I would not take a nice set for kids to play with & abuse to school.
Thanks ppl for starting this chat. Back in early 2000's I went crazy buying all types of plastic sets. Of the recent ones I've purchased, I really like the HoS Reykjavic blk/natural color. My only complaint with that set is the elevated rook turrets are delicate. My rooks have lost a few teeth when accidentally knocked off the chess table and hit the concrete patio floor. the chess store.com has added of a very good looking, weighted and reliable set to their already extensive line of sets. It's called the Deluxe Club and is currently my favorite. It reminds me of HoS "Leuchars Series" but with different knight and queen.
In my opinion however, I feel comfortable saying that the Dubrovnik is the Holy Grail of my collection and of all plastic sets. i wrote this in a hurry. soorry for so short post.
Plastic is man made/oil derived material that progressively degrades and discolours over time. Poor choice for chess-pieces unless playing flippantly.
