That's absolutely beautiful. Do you know anything about the history of the set?

I'm also curious about the history of this set!

Some time ago I made a review https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/help-identifying-a-very-attractive-vintage-chess-set

I dont know anything about history of this set! Can someone help me?

Checknologist

I tried searching google for it, but, unfortunately, I can't find a single thing about it! My apologies, I hope someone else is a better searcher than me 😂

Would love to pick a manufacturer’s secrets on how the other pieces were made without them molded from two halves like the knight pieces.

I can tell you that it's 99.9% definitely NOT from the USSR!  But apart from that I don't really have any ideas. The lack of cross on the king could suggest it's from the former Communist world, but that is still a lot of countries to choose from.

I can tell you’ve had some practice with the pawns as they’re very uniform despite the wood and the direction of the grain, and you’re proud to show the wood for its natural look that’s why you don’t stain the white pieces too much.

BTW this other thread could benefit from your entry:

Makes me think the pawns, knights and bishops on pic#4 were part of your first set.
I can’t help but be impressed with the development of the lathe work on your last picture. The number of bands on the pawn, bishop, queen and king pieces have doubled.

IpswichMatt

Those are very good indeed IMO

Checknologist

Wow, great job - i LOVE those knights!

You can see the evolution of the knight mane carvings from rough to wind-blown and flowing.
