How about identifying these beautiful sets. Don't pique my curiosity then leave me in the dark. Smile

As promised photo's of the Zagreb '59, 34 piece set from Indoemall.com (purchased through eBay).  It's listed as a 4 inch set but as you can see when compared to my 3.5" Bridled Knight it's a little shorter than advertised but the the knights and the rooks are pretty substantial; so substantial that it looks a little cramped on a 2 inch board.  All in all I'm rather pleased with it for £38.99 delivered.

Finally a comparison with the 3.5” kings bridled set.

Excellent sets everyone. It is fun to see all the variety

Xadrezmemoria, I love the green board in post #65, very nice!

Below is a set my wife bought for me over 25 years ago.

This chess set was sent from Berlin, some of the pieces look alike to the ones posted by goodknightmike (1941 Russian chess set)

A beautiful set indeed! What's the height of the kings? Agreed there are similarities to my 1941 Russian set. Thanks for posting

The king's height is about 9.5 centimeters. It is a good set to play with.

Nothing spectacular but my main workhorses are the Ebonised King's Knight Bridle set by The English Chess Co. 3.5" king; the knights have character and I'm especially fond of the high crenulations on the rooks. It's nicely weighted and a fair amount of chess set for the reasonable price paid.

And for display purposes the obligatory and somewhat cliched Lewis Chessmen.  I haven't had a chance to play a game with these guys yet but I think they could be quite fun in the right setting.

I'm currently waiting on a Zagreb 59' set from eBay.  I'll post some photo's when I get my grubby little mitts on it.

Gorgeous traditional black and white board!

1954 Soviet Russian Chess Set

PossibleOatmeal

My basic USCF club set on my home-made board.  Was playing through John Bartholomew's latest 15 minute standard game with the video.  I do this with all of his 15 minute game videos.

Same set on the board my dad bought at an auction and gave to me as a gift.  This board came with the most ridiculous 6" king set I've ever seen.  Don't know what I'm going to do with the pieces, but the board isn't bad at all, as you can see.

Possible - that board your dad got is a nice looking board w/storage. I bet some Renaissance Wax would make it look right spiffy.

Is that a plastic set in those pics?

I really love that homemade board you have, great little setup for study and the two boards side by side would make for a nice weekend tournament setup.

PossibleOatmeal

Nope, the set is wooden.

Rsava

Nice shine to it then.

Thanks Chuck,  I'm not really sure if my set is from Latvia.
