Hi! This is Dan Heisman, author of The Improving Chess Thinker (and other chess books, as well as my Novice Nook column at Chess Cafe). If you have a question or comment about this new book you can ask it here and I will try to check periodically or you can email me direct at danheisman@comcast.net. Thanks!Smile

Also: I will have two more books in 2010: The 4th edition of Elements of Positional Evaluation - I wrote in the first edition in 1974, about a year after winning the Gr Phila Invitational Championship. Elements 4th edition is due out around early April. And "A Guide to Chess Improvement: The Best of Novice Nook" should be out before the Christmas selling season. That will be my 10th, and possibly final, new book.  I may do some updates in my book retirement. Cool More on my books at my website www.danheisman.com .

That would be great loss for everyone. You are a wonderful writer.

Yes. I am looking forward to the new edition of EPE!

Thanks! Much appreciated. I will continue to write (and do ICC videos). I just won't be writing any new books. I will have a new edition of The Improving Annotator for those interested. Smile

Keep up the great work!  I love your chess column and am eagerly awaiting the 4th edition of Elements of Positional Evaluation.

Cheers, Dan!  I'm on the "Class B" chapter of "The ... Thinker" as we speak, and I'm loving it.  I must say I'm seeing myself in every chapter so far - a trend that will probably diminish from here on in.

The revelation (maybe not *such* a huge surprise) that my problems have less to do with handling Lucena positions perfectly and more to do with being sloppily and lazily optimistic is.. well.. having some positive impact on my in-game attitude and practice anyway.

You've probably read Jonathan Rowson's Chess for Zebras (?).  I'm reading that at the moment too (I have some kind of disorder when it comes to reading one book at a time), and it complements Thinker pretty nicely.

I too am looking forward to getting the new ed. of Elements, and always look forward to your Twitter tips.  Laughing

Thanks. As noted in a different thread, Elements is now available at shop.chesscafe.com and will be at Amazon by Apr 15.

What level player would you feel this book is best suited for? I'm a fan of the Novice Nook, but I find I get disgruntled in buying books that I can only read 25% of, at least until I further improve. Would this be beneficial to a lower rated player?

"A Guide to Chess Improvement: The Best of Novice Nook" does look promising (although I have all of Novice Nook on my hard drive already Laughing).

Best of Novice Nook not only includes 3.5 new NN's, but also updates information (such as book recommendations) from old NN's, corrects some analysis, and puts together NN's that are similar while removing redundant information. This all took more than 100 hours of work on my part. :)

As for the level of NN, it's for anyone who wants to improve. Before getting the book, try some out at http://danheisman.home.comcast.net/~danheisman/Articles/Novice_Nook_Links.htm - it should be clear after a while from the titles and cross-links which NN's (there are now 115!) are best suited for your level and needs :)
