The aburt behind nyx?? Good to know you're still alive and kickin', Professor!

Why yes, and how cool to run into someone who remembers Nyx!

I've retired from the university, BTW, and have moved on to doing what I enjoy (which, in this case, is helping keep old books alive).

Whaddya mean, remembers? I still use it! Wink

Glad you've found greener pastures - giving out-of-print books a new lease of life sounds like a fun (and worthwhile) thing to be involved with.

Re your question about ebooks vs printed. Personally, I still prefer the latter and would buy Underhanded Chess in a flash if it was re-published in paper form. I'm not so sure about plain, non-interactive e-books, especially for chess. I very much agree with bronsteinitz that there is still room for improvement in the area of interaction. However, I also agree e+chess works very well.

ARRRRR! Ahoy, Mateys, seein' as it's Talk Like A Pirate Day, and UNDERHANDED CHESS is underhanded and devious like a pirate, arrrr, I've put it up for 99cents for the next 24 hours at http://ReAnimus.com/store?item=1244 . Use coupon code "arrrr99" (that's 4 r's, arrrr!). It's a harr'larious handbook of devious diversions and stratagems for winnin' at chess so grab it before the offer walks the plank. :)

Arrrrgh (that's 4 r's, arrrrgh!) - it's not recognizing the coupon code thru PayPal. I would like to buy the epub version of this book at the knock-down price!

"Simple chess" (Stean) is another out-of-print gem i think. Also baburin's book on IQP structures ("winning pawn structures" if i remember correctly) is universally acclaimed as the best book ever written on this subject, but the few used copyes avaiable have abominable prices.

So I missed the special offer because the coupon code wouldn't work for me? Yell

(31 hours - 19 hours = 12 hours < 24 hours)

Just an update that we've now released Underhanded Chess in a paperback print edition as well. The ebook edition is also on sale for $4.99 for the holidays, at http://reanimus.com/store/?item=1244 . The print edition is $9.99 via https://www.createspace.com/4557051 (as well as Amazon, etc.) Enjoy!

And we're trying to track down rightsholders to the titles you all have mentioned that aren't available - thanks!

I read this book about 35 years ago. Very funny book.

Just bought it based on this once-ancient thread. Chess humor isn't exactly a saturated category!

I might check it out too…. I could use a good laugh at the moment and why not chuckle at a game that I have fallen in love with. 👍
