Yes, I've always thought that there could be software that would display a chess clock on the screen of the laptop and you have clock buttons attached to the laptop via usb cable and placed next to each player while the laptop's webcam recorded the game. The software could track each piece visually throughout the game keyed by the clock's button presses.
A simpler version of the software might just snap a photo of the board each time the clock button is pressed in order to help reconstruct the game later in case you just want to play a bunch of blitz games. It seems to me like an unexplored area, but it may also be way harder than I think.
