What is the best way to sell these chess books?

I will not speak to you, you dirty so and so.

Yes, it is a song.  An old, English folk-song.  Seems like a lime sucker such as yourself would be familiar with the old chestnut.

Now quit following me, stalker.  I believe the bleeding has stopped.

Your books on Amazon are worth approx $40 but that is for at least "good " books. They should not have any writing or highlighting. So your book by Vukovic  has some markings, Subtrate at least $5 (normally books with highlights are worthless unless it is RARE). So if you can get $30 + shipping TAKE IT.

Do not take an eccessive deduction for books donated. The IRS are not stupid, if it doesn't look resonable they might take a closer look. Its not worth it for a few chess books.

I haven't tracked anyone either, but I assumed that was just for topics they started?

Of course let me summarize:

1° You came here because you were looking for a title that was not here

2° Then you change story, and you came because of a funny comment you wanted to answer

3° Then change of story again, you came because you heard from your grandma that someone bashed Silman, and you were appointed his public defender for this trimester!

Come on, invent more lies to cover your true motives.

You're really not very smart, are you?

The title of the thread implies chess books for sale.  There is no way of determining what books these are without opening the thread.  This is such a simple point of logic I can't believe I actually have to point it out to someone.

Once in the thread, I decide I don't want any of the books.  I see a funny comment, so I respond to it.  This is not the original motive for entering the thread.  Again, this is such a simple example of progression that I fail to see how anybody over the age of five could not understand it.

The Silman comment was never presented as a motive for reading the thread; I was just pointing out you're a stinking hypocrite for criticising others for changing the topic of the thread, since your comment was entirely unrelated to the substance you claim to be upholding so vigorously.

Davide, I've confirmed that tracking people does not alert you to comments they made, so you can't even use that as an excuse.  I think you should either explain how I knew of your presence in this thread in a consistent, logical manner, or admit you were wrong with the whole stalking charge.  Hell, I won't even ask you to apologise for the abuse, just admit you made an error of judgment, please.

Ok chaps, enough of the troll counter-troll circle jerk. Just let the guy sell his books Undecided

So says the guy who came in here pretending to be interested in the books just so that he could bash Silman.

Oh, and for the record, I am only commenting because you're here, and although there's no way I can demonstrate it near as effectively as you already have, it does bear repeating:

You're a dick.

The sad thing about davidsego (sorry, davidegpc Innocent) is that he genuinely seems to be a talented chess player.  We patzers could learn a great deal from him.  Unfortunately he directs all this energy towards the one utterly mundane and boring post after the other.  It reallly is a pity.  Fellow forum posters should just ignore him. Undecided

Well, you know, it's just so hard to ignore someone when you're stalking them.

And since when is saying things like "go away moron troll" polite?

Furthermore, answer the charge that you derailed this topic with your Silman attack, please.

Which part of: "I don't care to talk with you, go away moron troll..." you cannot understand? You don't charge anybody with anything, because the only reason you are in this thread is for making personal attacks on me. Again, I reinstate the previous thought: you have OCD problems, you need to fix them with your shrink, you don't need to stalk me, or continue to write me messages, especially if you find my tone, and words offending. I do believe there is enough space on chess.com for everyone, with hundred of daily threads I'm sure you can find one where you don't need to read my messages, and feel compelled to attack me.

Now answer why I don't write in the threads you write, and don't feel the need to stalk you, like you are doing at the moment? The reason is because I don't have OCD like you, and don't care about what you write or where. And surely you write a lot of meaningless messages, which could be criticized. But who cares? Only someone who has mental problems like you.

Oh dear.

I added up the price of all my books I had quoted. Adds up to $33, counting the beginner books. Not counting the beginner books it adds up to $30. Sounds fair to me. As for the IRS, it is not worth my time to hang on to so many reciepts for so many years. I would not write something off unless it was big. I've done taxes for itemizers before, and it takes so much time.

If I sell these on Amazon, I could probably make an extra $1.50 per book, but then I'd pay $2.30 in fees per book, a 15% commission, and I'd have to buy more boxes and make more trips to the post office. Mailing books individually would take more time for me too and cost the buyer more. $30 here in one box sounds like the best way to go for me. Only problem is the two offers I got are from Canada and UK, both international shipping. I think I'd try the Canada offer first. I'd sell that person all the books for $35 total, shipping included, though I need to get my paypal account set up first.

I got Chess for Beginners, by I. A.  Horowitz for 49 cents. I go to the second hand store to look at the books once in a while, and got it there.

If its the 1957 edition it could be valuable. But , It cost 1 penny on amazon used, + shipping which is about $4.

BTW for you beginners, you can go to Amazon and search books for "chess" and sort it lowest to highest and you will find a ton of books selling for 1 penny. Ofcourse you have to pay the $4 shipping. Cool

It's a great point.  I have built a nice little library for myself using Amazon's used section, re-selling books I haven't wanted to keep.  I've picked up a good number of chess books this way in the past few months, preparing ahead for a winter of studying chess in my free time.

Some, new, come with free shipping, which works out well.  Dan Heisman's "A Guide To Chess Improvement" is well written and helping me map out my strategy for winter study.  I did the "Chess Exam" and "Tactics Exam" (the ELO rating was about 1370 each, with them coming in almost identically) and will do the "Bobby Fischer" test next.  The author's research is stunning.

I am working through "The Amateur's Mind" right now and see that Jeremy Silman's writing brings some passionate responses.  Heisman recomments Amateur's Mind before How To Reassess, so I hope the progress this winter is strong.  While studying "Amateur's Mind" I am doing Tactics Training (online and in recommended books) nightly, and still just going through GM games.  I picked up Korchnoi's Best Games, and will get Magnus Carlsen's games in November when it comes out.   Amazon.com has been considerably less expensive for me.
