Is there a new scoring system on Chess Mentor?

I realize that the rating system is vastly overinflated (like by maybe a 1000 points), but passing a lesson used to only require a 50% score.  The last 2 lessons I scored in the upper 50's and had points taken off.  This is probably a good thing if the idea is to make scoring more realistic, but when was this change announced?  I obviously missed it.   Or does the passing grade change with your rating?  Mine is in the 2300's right now.  Any info to feed my morbid curiosity would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I should have checked before posting.  Yeah, this is defintely a new scoring system.  It's undoubtedly going to do something about the crazily inflated ratings we all have.  Didn't realize what a grubby little materialist I was though and how important those crappy little points were to me.  Oh well, it's about learning chess, not some totally artificial rewards system!

How are you so sure that it's new? It looks pretty much the same to me.

For those of us whose mental health is not necessarily all that robust, a headsup would have been nice.

This system is too severe though. Now when I solve some problems I get 0 points. If I make a slight inaccuracy, I lose a few points. This way I can only lose points unless I limit myself to the very top ones...

It took about a month of constantly dropping points before I stabilized. I went from mid 2400's to mid 1800's and have been there for the last month.  It's possible that your rating simply hasn't adjusted to the new system yet.  I believe that the rating system is actually still too soft since I'm at best a 1400 player.  Of course this is the view from downtown "patzerville".   Someone of your rating obviously will have a different experience.  Anyone else want to share their experiences with the new system?

I am not talking about ratings. It's wrong when you can't win anything by solving a problem. What do you mean "stabilize"? Everyone makes mistakes. Even if you give Carlsen my rating and let him solve problems, he will only lose points.

What I meant by "stabilize is that since the new system is much tougher, your rating will drop until it reaches some level at which you can again gain points. As I said I dropped like a stone until I hit the 1800's.  Now I sometimes get into the 1900's before dropping down again.  Under the old system my range was 23 or 2400.  Now it's 18 or 1900.  As you said, the easier courses are much more difficult to score points with.  At your high rating they may well be impossible, but really.....  What is it you expect to "win" from Chessmentor other than increased knowledge?  The whole "keeping score" thing is just a way for you to pick out areas that still need work.

PLEASE HELP -- where do I go to read up on rules for scoring, e.g. do I lose more points when I time-out?

The help link is in the right column of the page, on the upper section. As to your example question; a loss is a loss. A timeout is rated the same as a resignation or checkmate.
