This thread has degenerated into the chess equivalent of a 5'1'' man sticking his fingers in his ears and screaming "I am the tallest man on earth!" over and over again.

Give the OP come credit.  He took an established opening, and turned it into a ridiculous lie, managed to generate almost 1800 posts, an keep this thing going for 14 months.

I think the OP has shown the mindset of these forums.

If the 5 foot 1 man was standing on top of Mt Everest he would be.

Disappointing but not surprising. You’ve insulted me every post for the past year, and now that you have a chance to back it up you hide instead of playing me. I can’t blame you for being afraid of my Alapin though. I would be too

You are riding a very high horse if you think a titled player would lose his time against a patzer for nothing.

You’ve spent plenty of time on this thread, so I’m pretty sure you’re not concerned with the loss of a few minutes  from a blitz game. No I think instead you’re afraid of the Alapin, and that’s why you won’t play me. That’s understandable. I do not blame you.

If you want to test your alapin,  i'll play black for you.  I'm a much tougher opponent than you were originally asking for tho.

First these people demanded I beat titled players with the Alapin. Then I crushed a pair of NMs back to back with the Alapin (one in 14 moves!) and now they’ve decided that NMs are nothing but incompetent morons capable of nothing but drooling on themselves, and instead have demanded that I beat IMs and GMs, so that is what I’m working on.

Then it's better you don't play me because i'd probably win and they would start asking you to beat Nms again,  or even Cms!

Yes very true!

Both were bullet

By the way how would you explain your results against 1. e4 c5 2. c3 Nf6 3. e5 Nd5 ? You scored roughly half-half against this line, but you claim that 2... Nf6 is winning for white.

Just because I’m a moron who frequently blunders winning positions in the 2. Nf6 line doesn’t change the fact that it’s winning

1) NM is not a great title. I think it's +2200 which is not that good.

2) It's a 1 minute game. I can beat a GM there if I'm having a good day and him a bad one

3)A NM with 1600? Seriously ?

True, but it just goes to show how much utter nonsense it is when people on this forum claim that online ratings are inflated compared to OTB ratings. If anything it’s OTB ratings that are inflated

Or course chess.com raftings are the inflated ones. A couple of years ago I was worth 1500 rating and I was playing a lot on chess.com My rating there was 1800

@staples13, You have played rapid games before, so show is some of those Alapin games. It has been almost a year since your last rapid game. Why give up?

First you say my opponents are weak so then I crush a pair of NM’s with the Alapin, and now you’re all silent on the matter. The silence is deafening.

Of course your  opponents where weak players, at least in blitz. 14 .... Nh7??????

Wow...how have I missed a 90+ page thread for this long?

Long story short...playing any opening in blitz "busts" nothing, and never will.  Play some real chess.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

thats just wrong sad.png . it depends on the rating of the players.

I don’t think you guys realize this, but the time control a game is played at doesn’t affect whether or not a position is winning. If a position is winning in a blitz game then it’s winnig in a rapid game and a daily game and everything inbetween.

"Winning" positions in blitz games are built on a false premise.  You're already playing an impaired game.  You are and your opponent are both playing sub-optimal moves throughout.

You might as well say Usain Bolt can run a 2 hour marathon because of his time in the 100 yard dash.  Equally pointless and misleading.

Does it affect whether or not the moves are very close to "best play"?

Well if we go by the Grand Swiss games, which are actually being played between top level players, the real bust to the Sicilian is the Moscow variation. grin.png

False. The Lucena Position is winning regardless of the circumstances it’s being played under. If I reach the Lucena Position it doesn’t matter if I’m playing a three year old preschooler in a blitz game, or Garry Kasparov in a correspondence game, my position is winning. The same logic holds true for the Alapin. If the Alapin wins by force (which I believe it does) then it wins by force in every time control against ever opponent. Thus this argument that the Sicilian is busted for blitz but not longer time controls is just untrue

Let us know if you ever decide that you want to answer the question. In the meantime, we can consider:

"... the kind of thinking it takes to plan, evaluate, play long endgames, and find deep combinations is just not possible in quick chess. ..." - NM Dan Heisman (2002)

On the contrary. If your opponent has more time to think, then he/she may play a better move. Or bring you into a difficult situation too.

Moreover,if you claim that time control doesn't matter, why then do you keep insisting on playing 3 minutes games? If your claim is true, then you can beat anyone with the Alapin,no matter the time control. Right? Why don't you prove it by playing let's say 30 min game or even 90 min + 30 sec increment, which is the official time globally?

It's not busted for blitz, either.  That's your premise.

Your Lucena argument is ridiculous.  It's like saying that calculating mate in 2 and mate in 46 is the same thing.  You are not remotely qualified to determine what is "busted" or not from any opening position.
