b3, Ba3

why r u guys taking this serious?
what. you were the gal who say to play this way!
oh boy :(
It was a 5 year old that accidently moved the B to a3, duh

I think the position can turn into like a Queens Indian Defense position with the white pieces.
Especially when black fianchetto's
It is a classic case of colors reversed Queens Indian Defense vs a King Fianchetto/Catalan.
I believe the moves c3,d4,e3 can help in a similar fashion with idea of putting the bishop on b2 which helps make a rock solid position.
Even though it seems counter productive to do such moves.
It seems to work!

In the queen's indian Black plays ...Ba6 because it's threatening the c4 pawn, and forces some concession by white. Example:
Not much to comment, Black played it 100% safe with 14...d6(!) instead of the more usual 14...Qb8. But in the examples above THERE'S NO FREAKING PAWN AT C5, so what the bishop is doing at a3?

Obviously playing 1.b3 and 2.Ba3 with out a purpose/reason is terrible.
However, What if their is a purpose and a reason.
For example:
What if we chose to play it against only 1...d5.
No one is forcing us to play the bishop to a3 against 1...e5.
We can pick and chose when to play 2.Ba3
Now think about this after 1...d5 2.Ba3 is a real problem!
The bishop hits c5 square so black can not try to get their C pawn on c5.
It also hits e7 and indirectly hits f8.
How does black deal with such an annoying move.
In the Queens Indian Defense they play Ba6 to be annoying! Black doesn't think he is going to win the c4 pawn in the QID. He does it to make white have some annoying issue.
In the line above Ba3 gives black an annoying issue. Obviously it can be dealt with. However, All we have done is put our bishop on a3.
Is it a terrible move? It causes some issues!
For agrument sake lets say black does play e6 something and let say we do take the dark bishop
Is our queen side weakness really a huge issue?
Black has center pawns on light squares we flank pawns on light squares.
Who has the bigger problem!
We can put our center pawns on dark squares and our light square bishop will still have a wonderful time!

All I am saying is.
This line might not be the best line in all of chess!
However, I think it shouldn't be dismissed either!
I could see a Grand Master crushing someone in this line.
Obviously a Grand Master might crush people in a bunch of bad lines.
However, I think compared to other lines this can't be hugely bad.
Obviously the Ba3 move can be very annoying in some cases.

As it happens, I play this move/very similar in speed chess and it works a treat but I play 1.d4 first and 2. b3. followed by 3. Ba3 if the diagonal isn't open yet by Black. What tends to happen is that they forget my Bishop leaving their own open for attack, which then forces the king to take it or to castle 0-0-0. It mostly brings up a pawn structure for white like the Nimzo Larsen 1. b3. The advantage with speed chess is that I understand the positioning better than others who have to take time to understand it. I watched the Nakamura vs MVL match yesterday and Nakamura gets into similar positions from 1. b3 so I am following his games to deepen my knowledge.
