The thought behind this Forum is to get Your Opinion on the Danish Gambit as an opening strategy!

After d5 black is fine.
It's a bit too easy to equalize for my taste. Ofcourse if black doesn't know about d5 he might do quite bad.

RonnieLewis

The trick being Black takes 'c3'!!

Thanks for your opinion. 'IM pfren'

I find the Goring gambit more reliable than the Danish. The Danish Gambit can be fun though and I suspect many white wins will beckon for you otb if you brush up on the opening ideas as few opponents will know much about the lines.

C44 Goring Gambit

1 e4 e5, 2 d4 ed, 3 c3 dc, 4 Nc3

Declined lines 3 ... d5 or Qe7 white can retain an edge

Quite a few handbooks are available for the Danish, some of these will cover the Goring also.

Thanks '87654321' I appreciate the lead, I play the 'Danish' in tournaments when I am 'out of the frame' for fun and experimentation, but I will look at the 'Goring Gambit' as lomg as it does not involve the 'luftwaffe' LOL (Herman Goring)  The joke is only as funny as your memory is of the Second World War!! Smile

I really like it! I think it's very hard to play with though after your opponent knows how to 'refute' it. But at lower levels, i have only faced 1 guy who know how to did. It still makes for some interesting wild game!

I think this opening is great for simple fun and higly tactical, so it's great if you want to work on your tactics.

If you like this one, then also check out the scotch gambit.

I just wanted to let '87654321' know that I checked the 'Goring Gambit' on youtube, a lot of lines overlap but very interesting, thankyou.

Thanks 'Testje' for your input, I like to play it when I have 'nothing to lose' for fun and a challenge.  I will check out the Scotch Gambit, Thanks!

A nice variation 'kasnew' thanks for your comment, definately one to consider!

RonnieLewis

I see your point 'IM pfren', one worth considering!

Play the Danish / Goring in the early rounds also. Black will not enjoy being bombed. Its very difficult in open games to maintain an edge, often you need to find good moves otherwise things fall flat as the initiative fizzles away. But if you can become adept with some of the typical positions bemused oppo's will follow.

Image has glitched.  To be serious, I couldn't imagine why you would want to play the Danish as the Ruy Lopez is beautiful and should be played at any opportunity.

RonnieLewis

Thanks, but I cannot see the image!! 'Here_is_Plenty'

I play it occasionally for suprise effect.  Here is one recent game.

RonnieLewis

Interesting, Thanks! 'billwall'

There is a Danish Gambit Thematic tournament that is in the registration process, for anyone who is interested in this opening.

Here are some comments on the game Wall - Mosa.

I agree that 3...Qe7 is hard to meet, and I agree that 3...d5 is one of Black's best options if he wishes to avoid the kind of swashbuckling attacks that White can launch in the gambit accepted lines.

Earlier in this thread, the line 1.e4 e5 2.d4 exd4 3.c3 Qe7!? (Rosentreter's Defense) was mentioned.  I want to point out that after 4.cxd4! Qxe4+ 5.Be3 Bb4+ 6.Nc3 Nf6 7.Nf3 Nd5 8.Qd2 Nxe3! 9.fxe3 Qe7 10.Bd3 Nc6 11.O-O O-O 12.e4 d6 13.Qf4, White does have compensation for the pawn.

The Danish Gambit is perfectly playable for White. Although Black can equalize in some lines, there is no way to "refute" the Danish as far as I am aware.

Here's what Viktor Pozharsky, one of the greatest chess coaches of the Russian School, would say:

"Пока не закончено развитие фигур, не занимайся пешкоедством. Выигрыш пешки в ущерб развитию часто приводит к поражению."

In English: "Until your pieces' development has been completed, don't occupy yourself with pawn eating. Winning pawns to the detriment of development often leads to losing."

Thanks for your comments guys, all took on board.
