Cool game! This opening has gotten my attention too lately.

Cool! Have you played any games with it yet?

Only reason I switched over to the catalan is because I really couldn't get a advangtage from the queen's gambit. Any suggestions Estragon?

Would the Catalan be a good choice against the semi-slav?

Yes, just a couple. I don't really have any knowledge of the ideas, because I'm not much of a queen's pawn player, but I played an interesting game. I felt like I had an advantage... then he blundered his queen. I guess that's just the way things go though.

I guess he didn't see the bishop protecting the knight. I think you could have hurt him early on if you didn't prematuring commit to putting your bishop at g2

DrizztD

What do you mean? Prematurely commiting to putting my bishop there?

On move 3 you played g3, a better move would have been Nf3. Basically you wait for what black is going to do. Also, you still hold the chance to push g3 now. When you played g3 your oppenent basically knew your bishop was going there.

Oh I see! Thanks for the advice.

No problem

I agree with "timeless_thoughts".  The Catalan was also the opening of choice that Chess.com members used against "Cheater_1" in the famous "Chess.com vs. Cheater_1" vote Chess game last year.  Good times, good times...
