d4 vs c4

Hello everybody!

What do you think, which is the better for white, and why? d4 (so everything what can be from the Queen's gambit) or c4? (English opening) I know that, 1. c4 can transpose into Queen's gambit lines, but when it does not, then which is better for white?

This is highly opinionated. Some openings are preferred by others for exact opposite reasons you have listed. For example D4 is one of my favorite openings but I almost never play the queen's gambit, which throws your assertion that "everything what can be from the queen's gambit".

Also, I have recently started playing C4 and like that as well, all though it is still my least used opening probably.

I would say it's a matter of opinion and what type of player you are.

Neither.  It is a matter of taste, though Black is thought to be equal after 1. c4 e5.

As a player that played both for some time, I'd recommend 1.d4 for those who want a more solid game. Actually, I'm playing 1.c4 as my pet opening for a couple of months. I use it because it's super flexible. An added plus is that I can blitz out 4-6 moves quickly without worrying about my opponent's move.

The downside is you don't occupy the center with a pawn, which means black can get equal or more share of central space. Unless, of course, if you would play d4 early. I don't play d4 too early when I play the English, if I'd play d4, I'd play it on move one.

Overall, in my opinion, 1.d4 = Solid game. 1.c4 = Flexibility
