Does anyone know how to put life into the petroff

The regular french is not terrible, it's better than the petroff!

And Qf3 c6 Ne2 Qf6 seems to always draw, I really don't see any advantage for white in this variation at all, first move or no.

And 6...Qe7 seems horrible, why not something like 6...Bg4.

Who gives a damn about your IM coach.

You're far from an expert on the French and your gassy opinions on every opening under the sun are getting pretty irritating. Maybe you should be Carlsen's second. You can channel your guru to help him become WC.

I happen to have a GM coach, so he beats your IM coach. Also, I don't mention it to prove my every point - I try to fight my own debates for myself.

He says that the exchange french is terrible for white - that doesn't mean black has an edge - just that white shouldn't play it. I wasn't the one who mentioned that the french exchange is better for black (although I think black can probably get a very slight edge).

The French exchange, in the right hands, can be dangerous as Garry Kasparov has proven. The problem with the French exchange is that the positions aren't rich enough to play for a win consistently against strong opposition. But against best play, Black can only hope for equality. It's ridiculous to think that Black actually has an objective edge in the Exchange.

A similar situation to Petrov then so should be conidered as an option for black? French is regularly played in top-level games.

Moses, you have it backwards. If Kasparov played it, it was because it was already dangerous and he had found a way to make to play for the full point. You didn't find Kasparov on the black side of 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6,  or the white side of 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.c3 for instance.

Kasparov wasn't afraid to trade off one central pawn in order to gain an attack. As John Watson said in reference to the French Exchange and the Slav Exchange, trading off a single pawn is not, in itself, indicative of an early draw.

I decline all challenges from forum trolls. As I mentioned in the note when I declined.

No, my definition is a gasbag such as yourself who goes on and on and doesn't know when to shut up. I don't care to deal with you and I don't care to spend some weeks in a game with you. I'm de-tracking this thread (again).

It's necessary to pull rank...

By proxy, of course.

Don't think I'm worthy as an opponent?  See this game I fully expect to win against a 2200 player on here: http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=64487264

Concerned I'm using an engine?  Consider this ongoing game where I didn't play the superior 14. Qd3: http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=63752078  Or this concluded game (with the Nimzovich Attack vs. Petroff) where I hung a pawn on move 21: http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=63752078

lol

This is what happens when trying to put life in the Petroff...

Let's hook up the jumper cables and breathe life into it!
