Are rooks main offensive pieces or end game bruiser's? What do you think?

I think that rooks are big pieces in endgame. Becuase it's easier to move them than mid game.

Rooks are much more important in the endgame, not so much in the beginning.

They prefer open files and ranks, which are at low supply in the middlegame.

Yeah but when you're able to get active early in the mid-game that is the hotness

"end game bruisers" as you put it

Generally they play a big role in the end game, but can be used in the middle game depending on the opening. The Morra Smith is a good example of an opening where the rooks are very active in the middle game.

I agree with the others.  Rooks like room and they get it aplenty in the endgame.  BUT some say that Rook End games are draws.  That is both sides with just Rooks and pawns.

Rooks can play a great role in the opening by protecting center pawns, Re1 after O-O and other pieces.
