French Vs Sicilian

I'll stay in.
So for the Sicilian, any 2nd move for White, right? The 2...d5 obligation for French players is simply to avoid Owen's Defense and Sicilian Defense Transpositions, right?
@ThrillerFan - Correct, the 2. ..d5 requirement for Team French is to avoid transpositions. The point of the challenge is to prove out the relative strength of the French Defense, so transposing to an Owen or a Sicilian misses the point. Team Sicilian has no such restrictions for move 2.
So four players have confirmed for Team French, and we have two volunteers for Team Sicilian.
As many Sicilians as were jumping on the French vs. Caro-Kann threads before, I was expecting to fill up the Team Sicilian roster faster than this. I guess taking on the Caro-Kann isn't as frightening as facing French players who know what they're doing.

Yeah, I’m also surprised

Team Sicilian - Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!
I am confident enough that I will even disclose what my opponent can expect!
Your eyes are this when you are sleeping!
Chick-Fil-A is this on Sundays!

whats wrong with a closed sicilian?
This should be a better match than we had against the Caro-Kann. Sicilian players should be more accustomed to sharp fights in the center. The French Defense is different from the Sicilian, to be sure, but you need similar tactical awareness to play both, and most Sicilian players are, like French players, playing to win, not merely hold the draw.

I dont want in but Im kind of wondering what would prevent a transposition from the alapin sicilian to the french advanced? 1. e4 c5 2. c3 e6 3. d4 d5 4. e5?

A lot of Sicilian players wanted in on the "French Vs Caro-Kann" correspondence match:
https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-openings/french-vs-caro-kann?page=1
This, of course ended in a decisive 10-4 victory for Team French.
To that end, I'd like to propose the same for a "French Vs Sicilian" match.
Team French Team Sicilian Result Board 1 @ThrillerFan Board 1 Board 2 @dsmith42 Board 2 Board 3 @chamo2074 Board 3 Board 4 @Chessisish10 Board 4 Board 5 @Mr_Winawer Board 5 Board 6 @kingsindianattack7 Board 6 Board 7 @2Kd21-0 Board 7
Same rules as the prior match. Each board features two games, one with each color. Every player must play 1. e4 as white, Team Sicilian players must respond with 1. ..c5, and Team French players must further respond to 2. d4 with 2. ..d5. Total score is what determines the winner. All games by correspondence, with 3 days per move.
Team French - Please confirm that you are all up for this second match, and if you want to move up/down on the Board pairings.
Team Sicilian - We'll do first-come, first served, except that Team Sicilian is limited to 2 titled players maximum.
I'll edit this first post once the pairings are set, and keep the score updated on the table above.
ill sign up for sicilian
