French with ...g5

Here is a variation I would like to try more.  Any ideas?

e4 e6 d4 d5 e5 c5 c3 Nc6 Nf3 Be7 Bd3 g5!?

Don't get it, after 7. h3 h5 8. Be3 the d4 pawn seems safe and black has weakened his kingside.  If the purpose of g5 is to attack on the kingside, then black's queenside pieces are going to have trouble getting into the fray.  Of course, I'm no expert, and some games involving this line would be interesting to see.

i really like the g5 idea.. i used to use it to scare Kings indian players ! .. my line goes. nf3 d6 g3 e5 d3 be7 bg2 c6 0-0 g5 !! and after whites normal nbd2 g4 puts whites possition in a mess. where black has huge attacking chances v.i.a h5 nh6 , f5 nd7-f8-g6 be6 qd7 and 0-0-0 ..

The knight should be able to enter the game via h6 to f5. And of course, ...h5 would secure against g4 attacking the knight.  I am still fresh into all of this ideas.  This is simply a fresh escape from the standard french ideas.  I have also seen Bb4 Winawer style, but this purposes a kingside attack immediately.  I have played it a couple of times and found some unique developing ideas, still working on it.  As far as castling, White can play Bd7 and Qc7 if necessary, and 0-0-0.  But I didn't worry about castling in my game that I am thinking about. My center pawn shield was sufficient.

Check this one out for fun!  e4 e6 d4 g5!

It depends on what they play.  I aim really for a kingside pawn structure possibly, with h6, g5 f5 and e6, but that is all speculative.  At the least, I have a pawn to shove down their throat on the kingside, Bg7 is in the air, and maybe even Rg8.  It is off the wall!

If I were playing it, I would play Bg7 and then see what White plays.  When I played it last time, I developed a strong kingside pawn chain with d6, f5 (he did not take), f4 and e5, and I won on that side of the board with an exchange sac that allowed me to checkmate on the backranks with a rook and an promoted pawn.

If you play d5 early, I think ...g5 was a waste of time.  I would hold back the center potential a bit (but that is just me, maybe you should try your idea and see if you like it, at least for blitz!).  You might learn a few new tricks that way.

What about simply 7. Bxg5. That seems to put a damper on things.

Yes, I wouldn't play it OTB, just in a blitz where you want to shift gears and have some fun.  I think even a 10-minute game would be fine, really.  But try it before you buy it! lol
