Ideas for an opening?

Sort:
Redendgame

I have been looking for an opening for white, and i just cannot seem to find one that fits my playing style. I really like getting on the attack early on in the game, so a gambit would be nice. I also like open games, instead of closed games. But my favorite thing to do is to use an opening that my opponent doenst know. when i was lower rated 1.c4 worked well, but now everyone seems to know that one, now that i am 1350. Could anyone offer suggestions? Please note the name of the opening as well as a sequence of moves, preferably on a board.

Do you REALLY have a playing style? AFAIK noone has until he learns the fundamentals, and puts them into practice.

"playing style" is not what i meant. What i meant was that i enjoy getting an attack on early. I just wanted an opening that i liked.

i developed a style very early on in my chess playing. it's mostly based on constant blunders but i'm sticking with it anyway.

Hi Redendgame, i was just trying to follow Pfren's advice to learn all openings 5 moves deep ;) I havent got the stamina to put them all in board format right now, but hopefully i have to memorize them! Anyhow I think I am on the right track with this & that's why i copypasted my wordpad file in your topic, to share. Let's memorize them together!

I put the Vienna into board format

"Playing style" takes some time to recognise in oneself. I've been 40 yrs enjoying chess, and it took me 7 to know my own style. So if you love to attack, 1.e4 gambit lines... And as Black, Sicilian defence but it needs LOTS of trial and error! Best wishes, Tony.

Who doesn't?

Against experienced opponents you won't get it except in very rare cases.

I am looking for an opening that suits my style... I like to play passively and be attacked on the kingside, even if I need to have material compensation for that. Who can help me ?

The Fort Knox in the French defense might be what you're looking for.

Irontiger,

If you want more universal the Hippo can be played as white and black against everything and will be on the receiving end of a lot of fire power against many opponents. Hope that helps.

ThrillerFan

First and foremost, get rid of they "that my opponent doesn't know" part of the equation and reassess.  Your approach of looking for trickery is the wrong approach!  Factor in your own style of play and soundness.  Trying to play some off the wall garbage isn't going to work, and everybody knows all the standard openings now-a-days.  Not like a Sicilian player isn't going to know the Grand Prix Attack, or Rossolimo.

This will lead you to utter failure.  The Hippo should not be used as a universal system.  I have it as part of my Black repertoire.  Not like I'm just spouting out something I don't know.

The Hippo should ONLY be played if White does one or more of the following:

A) An early Bc4 (like 1.e4 g6 2.d4 Bg7 3.Nc3 d6 4.Bc4 e6 etc

B) An early a4 (like 1.e4 g6 2.d4 Bg7 3.Nc3 d6 4.Be3 a6 5.a4 b6 etc

Yes, I know, but he said he is wanting to play passive and get attacked.
