I'm sick of e5 defence and all its theory, planning on switching( scandi) , what to expect?

I've been playing e5 defence for about a year now and frankly speaking I was quite happy, until I started to know more and more and more and more and more theory. Don't get me wrong I actually love learning the theory and I learned pretty much all of it(around 10 moves deep , pretty much all of the responses to white) and I'm pretty good at it , BUT the real PROBLEM with e5 even tho I remember most of the theory because it's so much of it and some variations I play more then the others I tend to forget others (not completely, but main).

With e5 game is usually very sharp in the opening (I dont like that) and the slightest inaccuracies can be punished , I'm so frustrated especially when I lost to 2250(not a single case with high rated players) rated player , because I couldn't remember exact moves in variation, which lead to an isolated pawn in the endgame and I was punished for it.

CONCLUSION : e5 is way to sharp and I feel like it has even more theory , then c5 and if you are playing random opponent it's hard to prepare for all the lines and he will play particular line the one he studied the most.  So I'm planning to switch to Scandinavian defence , in my opinion it won't overhelm me with theory and I think it's not that sharp.

What should I expect switching from e5 to d5 ?

IM Bartholomew has a YT and probably has good videos on that opening, it's his first choice defence

In its typical variation (with Qa5 and c6), the Scandinavian is a relative of the Caro-Kann... so a joint study of both openings might prove useful.

Check out

Games 47 and 48 in the head to head list

There are also some Caro-Kanns which have been played in this top computer match as well-

They are doing a large list of openings

Initially, quicker and uglier big fat losses; tho Kann sounds like yer speed 4 sure.

I dont think 1.e4 e5 is THAT sharp it depends on the lines you play. When i started 1.e4 e5 i got destroyed by kings gambit all the time so i had to put some effort into that one but when i learned how to play it it became the line i score best against. The rest i think its not so bad. It is more theory than 1.e4 d5 tho not gonna lie but after 1.e4 d5 you get a bit cramped and i dont enjoy it

Kann you reckon and not scandi?

Can you elaborate on that?

Also john bartholomew prefers scandi, I've never seen him play kann

You want not sharp after 1.e4 e5?  Berlin is your answer!

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.O-O Nxe4 5.d4 Nd6 6.Bxc6 dxc6 7.dxe5 Nf5 8.Qxd8 Kxd8 9.Nc3 and Black has various options here, like Ke8, Bd7, Ne7, a5, etc.

Did you read my post?  I think not,  I said I'm sick of the theory(and c5 has TONS of it , probably most complicated opening out of all), I don't want open or sharp games, do you even follow?

With e5 you need to know what your opponent usually plays , because if you don't and you are prepared for kings indian or ruy Lopez or berlin and your opponent plays Vienna game or Evans gambit or danish gambit or scotch game  or....... you see what I mean you need to constantly remember ALL of this openings and ALL of the lines and it's quite hard to remember EXACT moves in EACH one of them , on the other hand your opponent plays only one particular line ALL THE TIME and he will do the same with you because with e5 he dictates the game NOT you !

How can you say berlin is my answer ? I just don't understand !? Am I playing white or something?   Who told you that his second move will be Nf3 ?

You obviously don't know much about chess , e5 has TONS of theory

e5 has lots of theory but only because white has so many options to choose which opening he will play - Ruy Lopez, Italian, Scotch, King's Gambit, Vienna, etc.

If you look at each of those openings individually, they have less theory compared to Sicilian.

Clearly you are clueless about the Berlin.

I was under the assumption that you are asking about Black.  You said you don't want sharp.  The Berlin is not sharp.  Many GMs play it to get a draw as Black.  Below the GM level, Black can still win.

The Berlin leads to an endgame, not a sharp battle.  Understanding the position is far more critical than memorizing lines.

For example, Blacks best minor pieces are his remaining knight and the light squared bishop.  His dark squared bishop is a piece black typically wants to trade.

#20 so you are saying no matter what white plays I still need to play berlin?  Is that what you are saying?

You don't get my point here,  white has many options to choose from , which opening to play, so why should I rely on berlin I don't understand! !!!???

Kings indian I should play berlin? , Vienna game I should play berlin?  ahahaha it's you mate

White has tons of choices and you might not play berlin, then what !?

I think you should try the Scandinavian to see if you enjoy it. If you want really solid, you could try the banker variation, Qd8. Carlsen beat Caruana with it. That game is worth looking up. There is very little theory to learn. Qd6 has slightly more theory, but also offers more active lines.
