In the roughly two years I have been on the site, a fair number of "engine users" have vigorously stirred up the forums in the manner you describe above.
They also seem to deliberately pick fights with NMs in the forums, (all the while) comparing their engine evaluations against suggestions by the NMs.
Seems like just another version of -- I'm the Big Man on Campus Syndrome.

Yes, I am talking to my scientist friend about the best way to run the necessary mathematical models. I have been having a bit of trouble with the k-variable, but x and y are working fine, and z is clearly correlated properly with both the a and b coefficients. Do you think I will need to use delta-sigma factorization, or should I just stick with a simple colinear regression?
