Anyone out there know this opening?? is this good bad or ugly? some say white moving e3 is an error, some say it's passive, what's your idea about tis opening?

ugly. You can try the colle system which is instead of e3 Nf3 then u play e3 bd3 c3 nbd2 o-o qe2 and e4....Not that though, bad knight

no mate seriously, personally most of the time when I use tis opening I win, but I never play with GM s,just players who are ranks simmer to me, but high ranked players say this is a bad opening and e3 is an error, seriously what's the prob with this opening?

its not losing, but almost all other moves are better

As explained by Estragon, e3 seems a bit passive, but it's not awful. I'd say 3. Nc3 is the worse. In openings with d4, you usually also want to play c4 to increase your control over the center. Nc3 blocks that pawn in, making that impossible. You'd be better off playing c4 early - most masters play it on the 2nd move, or sometimes they play 2. Nf3 first, then 3. c4. Then play Nc3 afterward. Lead with your pawns, then have the pieces follow.

they are right maybe e4 is better or play the colle system because it seems like that opening takes forever to get mate

to Birdsopening, in your game above, 11. Qxc8 forces mate next move.

I have a different line:

There is a problem with this though.  I got it from an oldish book and I remember at some time analysing it at length, when I found a move for black that stopped the mate and gave an ok position.  The move that gets a question mark in the book is Black's 6. ... Qb4 but the improvement was after that.  I checked it on Fritz and I was right.  But my memory......
I think I might have it.  In the first line in parenthesis after 10. ...Qxe3+  11. Kb1 , black needn't capture the rook on d1 but can play Qc5 instead, covering c7 and then, because the black QB is still on the c8-h3 diagonal, the QB can interpose any White Bishop check on b5.  It's tricky for Black, but I don't think lost.

It's neither good nor bad : it's a bit inconsistent ; basically, you're not fighting for the center and you develop your pieces without any specific aim...

2. e3 is not bad, this is the Stonewall. But then white doesn't continue with the Stonewall setup, Bd3, Nd2, c3, f4, Nf3, Ne5.

As pointed out, 3. Nc3 hinders the movement of the c-pawn. White's position is very unharmonious after that.

4. Bb5+ is just pointless. After 4. ... c6 white has given black a free move to create a solid center point at d5.

e3 is not a mistake it's an interesting move that a lot of people are unfamiliar with... as loomis said it's part of the stonewall system -- f4 is key, in return for a very bad queenside bishop you create a rather strange set-up that is fun to play and leads to interesting games. It's not nearly as passive as it might look at first -- indeed it's rather kingside attackish. I believe the Colle System is similar, but without f4... I don't play the Colle System and don't really know about it. FWIW I love the Stonewall but have only just started with it.
