Kings Gambit

3...d5 is the main reason why the King's Gambit is out of fashion.
It's called the Modern Defense.
Very interesting I did not know that. I always used the Fischer Defence

The Fischer Defense is also good, but if you want to completely take the sting out of the KG, you should play the Modern Defense.
I could be wrong, but I think the most common move is actually 5. Bc4, not 5. c4, and if the knight takes on d5, white can just castle, and he has some counterplay.
Here is a game by Magnus Carlsen:
And that's why I like 90/30 games, so I don't miss mates like that lol. You got lucky on that one. Kinda surprised an 1800 would miss that unless they were short on time by that point.

LOL I honestly didn't see it either the strange thing was we both had quite a bit of time left it was like a 10 min game and I would say we both had about 6-7 mins left.
He did do the Queen check I guess it came 1 move to late. Engines sometimes spot things lol human's miss. Well I suppose thats the good thing about going over games lol.

Yeah it is a tricky mate that's for sure. The TT has a few of these queen sacrificing smothered mates that's how I know to look for it lol. I am eager to see how you do with the k gambit though. Its always intrigued me but the higher rated I got the harder it was to have a good game with it so I gave it up. Basically when people started playing d5 like in your game I started losing more lol.

Her problems started with 3...exf4?! although 7.Bxd5 giving up the bishop pair in an open position for a slight tempo was interesting.

But none of those moves are novelties, and 3...exf4 isn't dubious.
It's the move recommended by John Shaw in his latest book on the King's Gambit.
It was really a slugfest. Carlsen just happened to be the better endgame and middle game player.

Reti and Lipnitsky recommend 3...e4! as best. That was a good game, but Carlsen really took advantage of the problems inherent in 3...exf4. I actually studied this game before:
http://www.chess.com/forum/view/endgames/analysis-of-a-carlson-endgame
Nevermind the misspelling (Word red underlines it and "corrects" it to Carlson.)
It was an amazing exercise in not always trusting computer evaluations during analysis and rook against bishop technique can never, ever be refined enough (even computers have trouble from what I've seen personally.)
The purpose of why I made my forum is to collect my games, review them, learn from the mistakes I made, help others who might play similar lines, and hopefully improve. I hope you enjoy my games Lady's and Gentlemen. If you have any question, improvements, criticism, or comments on any of my games feel free to comment.
Kings Gambit begins with 1.e4 e5 2.f4
