This thread got me thinking. And after some serious contemplation, I realized that mr. sprinky is in fact wrong!!

e4 is such an inept way to develop pieces. Why don't the gms realize this? How can the game of chess evolve if even the top players don't realize that they are playing an inferior move?

I didn't have to look at this for very long, but I am now ready to proclaim centuries of theory and evaluation to be wrong! After only playing chess for a little under year, I think I get it. You know when you can't solve a problem, and someone new takes a fresh look at it, and solves it easily? That's me for the game of chess.

Your welcome. And since Carlsen, Nakamura, Vachier-Lagrave, and Polgar have accounts here because of the Carlsen vs. The World game, maybe they will take notice of this, and for the love of God, stop playing such an inept move!!!!

Hopefully in time, e4 will become a novelty in opening theory, used only to suprise amateur opponents who haven't studied all the refutations to the e4 openings.

If you thought that the "queen's pawn opening" thread was pretty lame, it can always get even lamer...

In the spirit of this Christmas season, I find myself looking at the Fourms and exclaiming: Oh, Jesus!

It never ends. Tongue out

They still haven't read my thread!!! How could such elite players all start out their games with such an inferior move??? I guess this is where that idea of having intelligence and chess skill don't quite meet up. They are skilled and able to win with such an awful opening, but they aren't intelligent enough to determine that logically e4 is worse by test.

None of the greats of old played e4. Kasparov, Fischer, Capablanca all played c4 or d4 generally speaking. Even the grobe opening was more popular! Its so sad to see chess moving backwards before our eyes. And now amateur players are likely to blindly follow the trends of the gms and do the same.

These threads are a bit more entertaining than threads about resigning at least. *golf clap*

I have to say you are full of it. Some excellent openings such as the Bongcloud begin with e4.

stop trolling this thread please. Some of us would like to discuss chess. This thread wasn't created for anyones entertainment purposes.

and Ivandh, I have merely dabbled with the Bongcloud, but my research that I just finished, proves that d4 variations of the Bongcloud are better than e4 variations, especially the Colle-Bongcloud variation.

This 5 minute Colle Bongcloud game is proof enough for me that my hypothesis regarding openings is correct.
