Engines do not choose openings, sir. Letting them playing the opening moves would be a disaster.
Whatever choice is due to the openings book they are using.

@OP I suggest for your next engine match, a handicap match. Stockfish or Komodo vs Fritz, Junior or Hiarcs. 5 min vs 40 min. I dont have a PC so cant do it myself 😊

What would be the disaster? Letting then choose opening moves seems more fair to me.
When engines choose chess openings, they lead to premature developement of the queen or moves that can be parried easily, here is an example (Engine is Houdini 4 Pro x64) :

Komodo won 5 games as white only (again only white):
While Stockfish 7 won 4 games:
The Results:
Komodo: 25.5
Stockfish: 24.5
The Ultimate conclusion:
Komodo is officially stronger than stockfish in slow time controls due to its superior performance as white. However, Stockfish plays way better at faster time controls; the results of the 10 sec 50 game tournament is here (pasted from before):
Stockfish 7: 30.5
Komodo 9.3: 19.5
Stockfish scored 22% higher than Komodo in this 10 sec tournament.
Stockfish also plays better than Komodo with black in slower time controls. If Komodo 9.3 were to go against stockfish as black only stockfish would probably be the winner.
