2....c5 is the Classical Kings Gambit Declined.  It leads to a positional game that is difficult for both sides.  White's first positional problem is  that it will be difficult to castle.   It is not particularly easy to learn.

Incorrect Blake, that's 2...Bc5, NOT 2...c5.  2...c5 is just horrible.  I myself play 2...Bc5 as Black, but only get a King's Gambit really via 1.f4 e5 2.e4 Bc5

Any new suggestions????

UltraLaser

The laser defence - with either colour with the moves c3/c6, Na3/Na6 and Nc7 :)

If you want to play something that is feared, you must choose to work hard at the opening. In the end, the only openings that are feared by strong players are ones that are well prepared.

Don't go for cheap quick answers, look for something you understand and like well enough to study.

At your rating level, you may even consider playing openings that are NOT feared, but should be! One example is the Russian Defense (Petroff's). It has a reputation as a drawing line among GMs, but it scores just as many decisive victories (as a per cent) as the Sicilian below 2000 strength.

what's up everyone, got any new suggestions?

mvtjc

Modern defense 1...g6 > 2...Bg7 is a sound defence.

GreenLeaf14

@mcjpd and then maybe C5 and Nc6?

mvtjc

...c5 is the sniper variation

Hoping  for 10.000 views...any suggestions for benoni?

Fear_ItseIf

taimanov variation against te benoni is the reason why it is rarely played at top level.

Fear_ItseIf

cant remember if i posted here, but the modern is annoying. I avoid the KID, but the modern can bypass most of my tricks.

Another fearsome defence in my repertoire the Queen's Indian Defence

Swindlers_List

I do not think there is anything an opponent can do to scare me.

A great strength of the 1.Nf3 Reti is that I can choose the lines, and avoid anything I do not like.

Anything new?

The chinese dragon seems like a good defence as well, maybe not that "scary" but quite interesting, the least,to face(Here is a recent article published here http://www.chess.com/article/view/how-to-play-the-chinese-dragon

dpnorman

I'm sure this has been said before, but KID. Also Dutch is annoying

Heh, i commented on this 3 years ago and said caro kann and pirc setups. Funny thing is I still have problems vs the pirc, but at least i know alot of stuff to do against the caro.

My friend is an absolute beast with that line-probably knows every single line in it, all the ideas etc. so whenever i play mainline sicilian agaisnt him I castle kingside to avoid all that nonsense. but im pretty sure he still plays similar even after i castle kingside.

GreenLeaf14

I don't know what happens if you O-O...I believe you avoid the sharpness of the sicilian with opposite castling, but you lack the easiness to play h4,g4 to harass the opponent's kingside, but whatever is more comfy for you
