Most Feared Defences

In my opinion, the Scandanavian Defense is seriously underrated. I believe this fits on this list as well, partly due to the inherent strenghth of the opening, and partly due to most people's lack of knowlege concerning counterplay.
In truth, any defense could be incredibly fearsome if it is played by a good player.

Then just play the open, and express your hatred by giving mate

I am amazed to see the overall strenght of the people who posted here
still not saying your most fearsome defence to face :P

the move i feel least comfortable against is 1...e5. i dont think i would be likely to get a bad positiin against it but the most critical lines can get annoyingly drawish
1. ...e5 i guess you mean with 1. e4...anyway,so true...and there so many many openings,Ruy's theory alone needs a library full of books to be covered

dutch. kings indian. I get tired of seeing Queens gambit declined, it's what I see most in my 5 minute games on chess.com.
I just started playing/ studying the KID. I absolutely love it😀

The KID is the only opening in my repertoire that I have used continuously since the 70s .

Probably the Grunfeld, feels so un d4 like, been burned a few times but in the end I have learned to enjoy the positions... 0-0-0 vs Dragon and h4 in Tango.. Tromp can be a pain also

Ghost defence?? :P What is that?
apparently the guy that made this comment erased it,as well as the answer to that :P

The Openings which scare me are the very awkward ones which I see once in a blue moon.
I think I have a bad score against the Owens.
I think the main issue is I never put any effort into studying the Owens from the white side.
I often wing the opening and use opening principles.
Against well prepared Owens players I get crushed.
I don't know what happens if you O-O...I believe you avoid the sharpness of the sicilian with opposite castling, but you lack the easiness to play h4,g4 to harass the opponent's kingside, but whatever is more comfy for you
