Could you insert the diagram? Then we can analyze without having to set it up ourselves.

d4 looks like a very good move.

Not because of 11.Na4! :-). I think IMO that is quite playable your move but very few people will play 9...d5? instead of the obvious 9...Kf7.

Which is good because? When giving a ! you will have to explain it :p. Na4 traps the knight on the edge. You will lose many tempo if you want to free it when your already a piece down. It goes against all rules of the cochrane gambit.

I have a number of games that feature the Cochrane gambit in the Petrov.

Go to www.TheNewChessPlayer.com

Click on the Openings button and then the King's Pawn button. You'll see the PDF to download.

Enjoy!= )

Sakaev prefers 9Nc3 Kf7 in OP line. After 90.0 again prefers 9...Kf7 as somebody else mentioned, 9...d5 looks suicidal.

I guess you mean it has been the most played. After a elite player level game like Short v Shirov though, think you find most prepared players will be playing Kf7. Since year 2000, i.e when software started to get powerful, hardly any players above FIDE 2000 have played d5.

It's the only move discussed in the recent black rep book by Sakaev.

Agree 5...c5 is probably best move, black needs to contest central squares. Think people are switching on their software a little bit too early.

Not sure why you are persisting with a 20 move computer analysis of 9...d5, when clear in two/three analysis that d5 is helping white get compensation for peice by opening the position. The db stats for "your" 10Nc3 are good for white. The db stats for 9...Kf7 very bad for white. Shirov, FIDE 2700+ player, has played 9...kf7. Only sub FIDE 2100 been involved in games after 10Nc3. Think software shows 9...Kf7 as better move too. Oh well, as long as having fun Smile.
