What are some of the best openings? I've heard the Caro-Kann and the Dutch. I usually play the Pirc, London, Englund, Spanish/Ruy Lopez, or Scandinavian.  Are there any good white openings for a 900? What are the best black openings for a 900? Thanks!

First off, a 900 should not be focusing on opening theory. You don't even know that there is no such thing as White Openings or Black Openings. There is only one opening every game.

If the game goes 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4 e4 d6, it is a King's Indian Defense. White is playing a King's Indian Defense. Black is playing a King's Indian Defense. It is just a question of which side of it each player is on.

The English is not a White opening. The French is not a Black Opening. They are merely openings. Both players are required to play a certain set of moves for an opening to arise.

Just because Black plays 1...e6 does not make it a French. 1.d4 e6 2.c4 d5 is a QGD, not a French, despite Black's first 2 moves being the same.

1.c4 c6 2.Nf3 d5 3.d4 is not an English. Nor is 3.b3 or 3.g3. The former is a QGD, the latter are both the Reti Opening.

So again, there is no such thing as a White Opening or a Black Opening. There are merely openings.

Whoever told you that Caro Kann and Dutch are the best openings doesn't know what they're talking about.

There aren't best openings like that. If the Caro Kann and the Dutch were simply the best openings then there would be no point in any of the other openings. The fact is that both of these openings have flaws to them.
