Hey guys. Title is little bit misleading - i ask for explanation and comparsion between those 3 openings for black. There is no perfect defense for black - in every opening you have something that others don't. I aks for that. What's the main advantage and disadvatange of those 3 openings below and which one provides safest play by black?

1. Russian-Petrov Defense 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d4 d5 6. Bd3... What's the difference between French exchange and This variation of Petrov. Which side is better for black.

2. Caro-Can Defense 1.e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 dxe4 4.Nxe4 5.Bf5 6.Ng3 Bg6 with e6 Nd7 Nf6 for black. Is this opening better or worse for black with comparsion with Scandinavian with Qd8 variation..

As black i tried almost everything except Sicilian defense. I don't like playing on queenside and or while white attack me on kingside.

1.e4 e5 i don't like playing against Scotch - i don't like losing my e5 pawn.

So i choosed those 3 openings (plus black lion defense but if they play f4 i lose) and mainly playing Scandinavian but.. is too passive for me and while it blocks almost every attack that white trows, is little bit passive and often i am the one attacking and i lose because position is not ready for attack. I don't like long maneuvering games - no pation and skill for this but at same time black is completely safe.

Russian defense well.. i often get attacked first on kingside and sometimes i just lose..

Caro Can is the least played defense and honesty i think is good, but i am unfamilar with it.. Its very close to Scandinavian.. when asked IM John said he dont play i because white can go e5..?!.. i think is playble you have good french no?

1. There is virtually no difference between your Petrov's variation and the French Exchange. The same pawn structure 6Ee2Dd and similar development of major pieces. ChessOK gives evaluation +0.15 to both openings. explorer.png
