scotch vs vienna


At the beginner level, winning has hardly anything to do with the opening.
Probably learning the Vienna is a good choice, it's a tricky opening and it's harder to avoid, because you reach it on move 2. After the first two moves, black can still avoid the Scotch by playing the Philidor defense or the Petroff defense. If you learn the Vienna you already have a complete repertoire against black playing e5 on the first move.
Said this, i also believe the Scotch is sharp, it's fun and probably a better choice at master level, but it also requires more study.
