try the tarrasch variation in the QGD very useful I've won so many games with it I actually think  I play the defense like a 1900 (OTB) or so player

I usually reply with the King's Indian Defense, which is Nf6 after d4, g6 and fianchetto the dark sqaured bishop, d6, and castle.

It's many ways,to play againist D4.One of the best defences is Slavian (1.d4 -d5,2.c4-c6,3.Nf3-Nf6,4.Nc3-dc). Good defence is Nimzo-Indian (1.d4-Nf6,2.c4-e6,3.Nc3-Bb4)
