For white it is fried liver or danish. For black it is Scandinavian.

Nf6 is by far black's most popular reply to d4 by white.
Because it gives more options and 'spice' to black's options than replying d5 which is black's second most popular reply for black's first move.
After d4 - I like c6 though.
Because black has d5 coming next move and there's no good way for white to prevent that d5 next by black.
And c6 mobilizes black's Queen and doesn't block black's c-bishop - which e6 does block.

Irony: After d4 c6 d4 d5 f3 .... some issues there.
I kind of would rather face the main line.
But - people almost Never played that 3) f3 against me. Nor 3) Be3.
See the issues? If you take at e4 and he takes back then black has zero center and white has a huge center and a half open f-file to hit black's K-position with after castling his rook to f1. Black can try e5 there.
And 3) f3 might be a good way for white to take black out of his comfort zone.
