Try a lot of openings

One that is fun to play according to your definition of fun. Questions....do you want simple or more complex (e.g. memorization of moves and lines)? Do u prefer to attack or play defense? Do you like short games (e.g. 30+ minutes) or can u stay focused and enjoy long ones (60+ minutes)?

There's probably too much different lines in the ruy lopez especially when the opponent does something you didn't learn and you're basically just confused.

Do something simple since you're a beginner. Maybe the scotch or queen gambit

Do queen’s gambit

Do middle pawn forward 2

I'm really good at openings, and I would say that you only need 1 opening as white, and 8 or so as black. That's whichever one you want to use as white, and then 1 defense for each opening move when you are black. As white, try scotch, london or trompowsky. Those take very little opening knowledge. As black, just pick your favorite defense and learn it well.

i play 1.e6 as black against any first move even the 1200s have better opening knowledge than me

That's true, playing defensive always will survive for the first 20 moves or so. I just don't like getting behind on my pawn development and then losing in the endgame because of it.

assuming the opponent plays 1.e4 then e6 is by no means a defensive opening

Wow! So many choices! So many recommendations! So confusing! I guess I should have asked the question a different way. Perhaps, "I want an opening for Black that is easy to learn and gives me a good shot at winning within 30 minutes (I HATE long games!)." What do you think now?

White: Bird Opening, Classical Dutch style.

Black:

Against e4 - French Defense (Fort Knox Variation).

Against d4 - e6.

Now...

If White plays e4 - you play d5 - French Defense.

If White plays c4 - you play f5 - Classical Dutch. (playing f5 as a first move isn't good - the sidelines are too strong).

Here - now you only need two openings.

What I say Classical Dutch, I mean the Smirnov way, not the GingerGM way (who's a genius and a great person and I wish him all the best):

I'm 960 and I recommend the Italian for principal opening with white and with black well it's your choice because I use the pirc and the Slav and I have good results

And yes I am a Brasilian player

Hey, I'm wondering what opening to play to get to 1500. I would like to start with e4 because that's what most people use and look for. I want to be more aggressive and developmental rather than a more passive, protective type of playstyle.
