The thing about strategies in games is that they are not all equal and they don't have to be equal.

And there are many many many more people playing the Ruy-lopez then the grob which indicates that the Ruy-lopez is a better opening.

Fight me!

There is no best!

Proof?

Lol, I don’t need proof. Everyone but you knows.

Really? You resort to that type of "argument"?

Just say "Yeah I was wrong" instead of making bad excuses.

there is no best opening. I thought this had already been decided.

So you are saying that the bong-cloud and Ruy-Lopez are of equal strength? Really?

B1ZMARK said there is no best opening, not that some aren’t better than others.

Okay. Sure. Don’t take it from me, take it from every grandmaster, international master, FIDE master, candidate master, or any 2000+ player. The general consensus is that there is no best opening.

Yes that is what's believed but that is only speculation and ideas. Chess isn't solved.

Also they don't ALL agree on that.

smh

They all do agree.

No. I will listen to arguments and evidence. Not opinions.

The Hippo formation is a solid structure for bullet. I've beaten 2000s with it and somewhat held my guard up in blitz and rapid. If you want to learn an easy opening that can get you far, try the Hippo. Also, the Hippo is a universal opening-- it usually works well against most openings, and both colors can play it.

The only way for no best opening to be proven true is to prove AT LEAST TWO openings are equally good. This is easy. Ruy Lopez draw. Sicilian has also been studied to death. Caro kann is respected by all except me. Etc,

Where is your proof that the Ruy-Lopez is a draw? If you have any. I'm very curious.

sndeww

Easy. Berlin endgame.

Another easy proof: top players all play different openings. Also, the burden of proof is on YOU to prove that there is a best opening.

DasBurner

the qualifications of an opening being good are that it doesn't lose immediately. scratch Grob, Bongcloud, Sodium attack off the list immediately. But you can't determine if one opening is better or not because at the end of the day we're humans, we can't calculate every single chess game possible to see which opening is correlated to the most wins

If there is "no best opening" then why do certain ones have better success-rates and higher usage-rates than others? That is my "proof" unless you can debunk it.

Some have better success rates than others because some are better than others. Bongcloud is worse than ruy lopez. But lets take a look, how "good' exactly.

yeah safe to say they're all about the same

sndeww

Just because some are better than others doesn't make them better than ALL of the others.
