There is no such thing as the pyramid opening (or defense). The term is simply used as an easy way to describe the pawn structure often found in the Colle, London, Torre, and Trompowsky.

the Reti opening is so slept on, it can transpose into nearly any opening. It starts withe the move 1.Nf3. It is an extremely flexible opening as it doesn't commit a pawn too early. It can turn into a Queens Gambit, a Kings Indian or even an Italian.
