How can I do that? Although, to be honest, I don't wish to be a tyrant. I'll consider blocking people when it's apparent that they're trolling. But even if they're steering things in directions we don't like to see going, how about we all tell them ENOUGH WITH THE B/S!

JOIN ME IN SAYING THIS: LET'S STOP THE POLITICS AND B/S!

#73 You got it right! This is completely on topic. It's just some people are trying to bring too much politics here. Thanks for the info. Hopefully we'll be back on track here without politics. If you can add more to the topic, you're certainly welcome to do so.

The whole political situation at the time is (and was) absolutely fascinating. After all we lived through it all and if there was a chess game on a huge scale, one that was watched worldwide move by move, it was the Cold War. And it was riveting. While that would be a great thread, I just wanted to congratulate Karpov on reaching 64 years.

I tend to agree. Chess and chess players have been used as geopoiltical tools. However, my hope is to keep politics out of this thread, or to a minimum at best. Let's just leave the topic out of it. Politics usually divides people. People rarely think objectively - especially in politics - and tend to be inflexible and biased in their thinking. That's why politics usually divides people into camps and creates unnecessary arguments. So let's just acknowledge that politics is something we all will hardly come to agreement in, and let's leave it out of the thread.

Better is, in my opinion, discussing the individual. Even if his life does touch politics, it's better just to make a reference to it without going into much detail. That way the discussion will still be interesting, and politics will at least be kept to a minimum. Cheers!

the mods have given Greasy way too much rope already.

all he has going for him is the anti-Fischer stance the site seems to uphold.

I think it's perfectly OK if an individual is anti-something/somebody as well as if he/she is for something/somebody. As long as he/she can keep things in a more or less civilized manner. Let us not be in a hurry to clamp down on the freedom of speech. Discussions can be productive (although they can also be a waste of time).

So if a particular person is anti-Fischer, that's OK by me. And Fischer is one of my favorite players. But let us not forget that this is a Karpov thread. So, if folks want to discuss the Fischer - Karpov match of 1975, bring it on!

It's fine then to troll multiple threads with hate speech.

Yes that maybe the jist of chess.com.

it shows a good example to young kids (apparently the site is supposed to have many and their eyes must be protected against certain images and certain words but not certain types of sick attitudes, it seems that should fostered in them).

Well, if somebody wants to spew hate, then fine. Last I remember Fischer himself was spewing lots of hate. Fine by me. If an individual is hateful, let it be. One may be personally offended by it, but such is life. We all live in life when somebody may be hateful, some others can be loving, yet some others may be neutral, some can by cynical, etc. Don't let it bother you. One has to deal with such things in life and learn from them. One should not be so sensitive and easily offended. If one feels offended, one can simply disengage or isolate himself/herself. But, I think, the better option is to grow a tougher skin. Builds a strong character. I do find people in the West, in general, are far more sensitive than those in the former USSR. Yes, reality can bite, but so what? I mean you don't just stay home because there's snow and cold outside, right? That's the way you do it with people. Don't let others bother you - even if they mean to offend. Cheers!

P.S. I will consider banning a person if he/she is really trolling on my thread. Like if he/she starts spamming it, or repeating the same or similar nonsense over, and over, and over again. I would try to be rational with that person first though to see if there's a substance to his/her comments.

P.P.S. So far, I haven't banned anybody.

Ok I guess this is no longer a family site.

Kinda what I suspected.

Someone should suggest to staff it's no longer suitable for kids.

i wonder why you are still here? last week you had upload a picture of yourself in the brothel wearing only garters. and i thought kids were safe nowadays

I find it amusing that you are "trying" to do counter jokes.

I say you are "trying" because your counter jokes pretend to be witty and tough yet they fall short after people notice the bunny ears and a tail you have on in your picture.

You are trying to make fun of someone in a bunny outfit. Like are you serious? Really going to go there with insults in a bunny outfit.

There will be lots more of chess content and childish arguments that will accompany the thread. You all will see whatever is of interest to you. :)

By the way, I'm not sure if you're a kid or an adult, but you'd be surprised how much "stuff" kids know nowadays. If one wants to protect their children from this kind of "stuff" one should not give them Internet access in the first place! But kids are exposed to "stuff" via their peers anyway, so why bother policing them, and everybody else? You want your kid to be protected, homeschool them, and keep them off the net. Don't blame the internet. And if you're a kid and feel offended, don't bother being on the sites where mostly adults interact (I view teenagers more as adults than kids). There are sites for kids only - where most grown ups don't even bother going to.

Wouldn't it be better to show them a better examples instead.

It absolutely would. I agree. I also would agree if you said, "wouldn't it be better if there were no wars, no violence, etc., etc." Unfortunately, the real world doesn't really work that way.

So one may either keep protecting the kids, at least up to a certian age, and then slowly start exposing them to the real world (and nowadays the internet is part of it). It's up to the parent to decided when and how.
