You feel like you still have a lot to learn and you still make mistakes?
This feeling never goes away! Definitely not at 1800 :)
Of course it's all relative, but I've heard IMs and GMs say they're clueless too.

He repeats himself a lot, as far as I know; he talks about the same types of imbalances all of the time.

Bottom line: everyone learns differently. Some people do well with Professor A and poorly in Prof. B's class. For other students, it is the opposite. The same can be said of chess author's. There are great players who love his books, and great players who hate his books. The only way to tell is to give some a read. If you like his Chess Mentor lessons, there is probably a good chance you will like his books.

I like very much silman's book. It is really excellent books. Many writers hidden the secreat of chess, but silman only exposed openly the secreat of chess in his book how to reassess your chess. I think why some of the people is disagreeing his book. He is not a world chamption. If he become world chamption list, then everybody accept, even GM not using his name while doing chess lecture in youtube, because only the ego problem, because they are thinking silman not reached their level.

How to Reassess Your Chess and The Amateur's Mind are two of the best instruction manuals I have found. Wish I had them when I was learning the game.
