Have you ever played a game of chess? Who was your hardest opponent?Who did you try endlessly to beat?

I once beat a player rated over 2100. I was white and made a silly mistake early on.  That seemed to throw him off his guard and he probably expected he would win easily.  I soon managed to drum up a quick king-side attack that forced him to give up his queen for a rook.

I went on to win the ending by sacrificing my queen for his rook to get a winning king and pawn ending.

He was my toughest ever opponent and I won!   Cool

I have been lucky enough to play both GM Boris Alterman and GM Ronen Har-Zvi in simuls. I lasted around 25-30 moves against both of them (both QGD games). I recently met a girl on Yahoo chess, and what can I say, she absolutely demolished me. Cheating is rampant on Yahoo, but I am sure she was not (she didn't play perfect 'computer chess'). Apparently, she has never really read any books either, she simply has unbelievable tactical vision. I'd guess she's probably 2000 USCF (she has no official rating, though). She sure did a number on me.

I had the pleasure of playing against GM William Lombardy.  He's an old guy now, but rated about 2500 still I think.  He was actually Bobby Fischer's training partner and second during his championship match vs. Spassky.

Well, I've played grandmasters such as Korchnoi, Christiansen (twice), Torre, Gufeld, and Browne.  Korchnoi and Torre were the hardest.  I had chances with the other opponents.

I think the toughest guy I played was an Israeli soldier - online. That was about 6 years ago. He beat me a couple of games in a row, and that had never happened to me - at least not since I became "good". We started talking and he explained to me that he was in the Israeli Army etc. If I remember well, he was a teenager, he was doing his time... you know,  almost everybody has to serve in the Army in Israel. I also think that it was the first time that somebody beat me a couple of games and I didn't feel the need to "revenge". Just admiration.

I wish I had kept in touch.

When I was very young some master who gave lessons in elementary school (I did beat him, but he had a queen handicap Undecided), beside this it has to be the best players I`ve played on this website, because in real-life since I started playing again (this means not including when I was young) only one person was able to beat me and this was as I was starting to play again, I`m pretty sure I would beat him quite easily now as I feel I`ve improved incredibly since I`ve joined this website.

M hardest opponent (in real life) was Shane Wang, an expert level player I played in the final of the Grade 10 championships. He was by far the highest rated player in grade 10 but I managed to outplay him, brilliantly (I think) sac an exchange and get an amazing position with forced win, and I blunderd in time pressure, missing my first shot at nationals.

My friend was the hardest person i played he was so good at chess!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny, the best real player I played is my father. heh...

Wouldn't know his rating, but I think he could beat a 1800 player in his good day. He won every match against me all my life, but I drew the last one! I wan to win next time I see him :)

My toughest oponent thus far has been a little Czech fish. My toughest human oponent was probably my high school advance math teacher. He used to do simultaneous games against whoever would show up from time to time. At the time I had no serious interest in chess. I knew how the pieces and pawns moved and nothing more.

I've played A chess master named Mr. Bury and GM Amir Bagheri and Chesshere.com. Both effortlessly wasted me.

well i played GM Michael Adams in friendly blitz in 2000, pretty sure he was ranked 2 in world at some stage. cant get much better than that! if anyone has his highest rank actually please let me know, although i think number 2 at some stage.

have played several other top GM`s incl. GM Luke McShane, GM Bogdan Lalic, GM Alexander Baburin, GM Julian Hodgson, oh and GM Jan Smeets although in 1999 or something.
