Why philidor is the greatest chess player of all time.

Philidor is the greatest player of all time, because he invented modern chess. Before philidor, people like greco would miss mate in ones all the time. Once he appeared, basic tactical blunders instantly vanished. Not only that he invented basic positional chess, which is necessary for more complex positional chess to evolve. If it wasn't for philidor, we would have been stuck making basic tactical blunders. Therefore, philidor is the greatest chess playing entity that will ever exist.

Fisher didn't contribute to chess, in fact he was afraid of karpov!

no he had conditions and he went mental.

Exactly, that's why he's evil.

wdym. The increment is used in the most popular time controls like 3/2, 15/2, 90/30 etc

Blackburn contributed nothing to chess, therefore philidor is greater.

Bent Larsen agreed on Philidor as the greater player because he was more ahead of his rivals than others.

Exactly, most top players agree with me!

Steven-ODonoghue

Most top players Aagree that you're wrong.

Finegold disproves of the Yugoslav against the dragon, it's not like he contributed to chess theory either.

Greco died in 1634, Philidor was born in 1726. They were hardly contemporaries. Chess had evolved quite a bit in almost a century. But Philidor in his prime was clearly the strongest player in the world. On the other hand, 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 f5?!, which was Philidor's idea, is pretty poor

It was played by morphy therefore it was an excellent idea.

"It was played by morphy therefore it was an excellent idea."

It may be a great "idea" but it's a pretty bad move
