Martin vs The world Analysis thread

Drunken Bishop moves, longer than one square, are not permitted, and castling is not permitted for automated moves demonstration.  You have to include extra diagrams, as shown below.

Example of Move Ideas (how to)

The Queen to protect the d4 pawn.  But Black has other ideas in mind. A Drunken Bishop pre-strike.

Lucky for White, with the Drunken Bishop, next move.

Right here, Black cannot castle long because of the White Drunken Bishop attacking the landing square.  But if we can't castle long, then let's ruin it for White, too.

If White takes with the King, then no castling!  So he takes with the Bishop.
We then castle long and he gets his light-square Bishop out.

But, he still can't castle long because if he moves the Bishop out, we're covering the square the King lands on… so an exchange of Bishops occurs on d2 and the King won't castle after all.

White has doubled pawns… possibly a weakness.  The question now would be,

Is this game going to end in a draw?

Anyway, learned how to diagram with moves for a Variant game.

I wanna get in on the fun, but I'm afraid I'll only hurt you guys, so I'll just watch.

On second thought, can I join?

Sounds good to me.  All the help we can get.

Rules are on the first page, but two Events have taken place and so the Events are done.

The Drunken Bishops move like…, like drunks.

We are displaying the Kings and Queens the way the other Event switched them.

For a variant game, ours isn't too extreme… so we are lucky.

But don't underestimate Martin0.  He has never lost his Variant games, and I'm sure he is motivated to keep his record intact.

Best,

Bob

Alright, neat! I already read up on the rules, which is why I changed my mind. I know the basics.

Current Position (Black to Move)

It looks like he'd like to take our Bishop since it has more value than his Knight.

To save the Bishop, unconditionally, and make it valuable again, requires Ba6 > b6 > Bb7.  In that much time, he can fianchetto his light squared Bishop, and play his center pawn to e4, at which time it would be our move again.  These would be the moves:

Notice that he would delay bringing that e pawn up until he castles his King and also tucks it away.

… and it would be his move now, and he has solved his problems.

So, what should we do?

I vote Ba6

From my last diagram, if he then plays d5, we'll be in a tight spot.  He will have opened the long diagonal that his Bishop controls, our Queen is opposite his Rook and we may lose our Knight.

There are many outcomes depending on where the pieces move right around this point in time… too much to diagram.

Ill join....

Ba6 looks best, after which we can play Bf6 and Kc6. Then we can play 0-0-0 and start attacking on the Queenside. The only obstacle is e4, I think. e4 Bf6 Bd2 (ed5 Bxa3 is immediately winning a heavy piece because of the dual threats of Bxa1 and Bxe1) Nf4 followed by Nd3 looks really good.

Tja_05

It seems that after e4 Bf6, White should play ed5. Bxa3 Ke4 Bxa1 Bxa1.

Tja_05

But, Why not Bc6? What is wrong with that move?

Tja_05

After Bc6, we have the option of Bxf1 if he pushes his e-pawn. It also prevents Nc4 because of Bxc4 bc4 and Ka4+

Tja_05

But you have a point. I'll vote Ba6.

Was doing lawn work all day, have to shower and get some beers… then I'll weigh in.

Ry, Ba6 is legal, but why would you think it is not?

And I got stumped on the Daily Puzzle… put, literally, 3 — 4 hours in on it and only got through two correct moves.  (Don't comment here on it, I don't want it spoiled whatsoever for me.  I'm going to solve it… just have to persevere.)

The answer is _________________________________________________________________________

Ok, got my beers… needed them… was out in the sun for six hours straight.

JustARandomPatzer, if we assume that Martin0 thinks he will dominate the endgame by going into it with both Drunken Bishops — not a bad assumption, strategy-wise, by him, btw — then if we play Bc6, his f3 Knight can come to e5 and there is no way we can save our light-squared Drunken Bishop.  He would take it next move and we will wonder why we let that happen.  Sort of like giving away a pawn in material value.  (watch out for Martin… he's very sly; don't underestimate him)

For now, as much as I'm not pleased with things — Martin made a move I never analyzed, and it is a grand move, unfortunately, Ba6 is the best move.

Vote Ba6.

Best,

Bob

Just so everyone knows, Martin0 made a desperation last move.

After we make Ba6, I really like Bf6 for our other Bishop.

As a follow up, that will will really put the screws to Martin's perfect world.

After all, we do want to keep him on edgeof the world.

Alright, that's five votes, right?
